What do you think caused Jesus to talk to Zacchaeus? Luke tells us Jesus was just "passing through" the town of Jericho, but then he stopped all of a sudden, began speaking to a notorious tax gatherer, and even invited himself over to this fellow's home for dinner! And Zacchaeus wasn't even a man of great importance. He was little more than a tax collector whom people loved to hate.
Jesus was so open to the Spirit that he had a completely different approach than what many people might expect. He knew that his Father had called him to seek out the lost and broken. That didn't mean only those who were materially poor; it also meant those who were needy in their hearts. So Jesus responded to the Spirit's prompting and called out to Zacchaeus. Seeing that he was open to his message, Jesus changed his plans and took the time necessary to bring Zacchaeus one step closer to salvation. And that one step was all he needed. Zacchaeus repented, embraced the Lord, and entered into a whole new life in Christ.
Guess what? The Spirit who moved Jesus so dramatically is the same Spirit who lives in you. Jesus wants you to walk this earth as he did: open to the promptings of the Spirit, ready to help those who are hurting, speaking words of comfort to the frustrated and sharing wisdom with the confused. It sounds intimidating, but it shouldn't be. Just practice listening to the Spirit, and your ability to help others will increasegradually but surely.
In Christ, we have been given every spiritual blessing, and the capacity to hear the Holy Spirit is one of those blessings. Let's pray for a new outpouring of the Spirit into our hearts so that we can hear his voice and be more open to his leadings.

예수님께서는 무엇 때문에 자캐오에게 말을 건네셨을까요? 루카 복음사가에 따르면 예수님께서는 예리코 거리를 그저 ‘지나가고’ 계셨는데, 그러다가 갑자기 걸음을 멈추시고는 악명 높은 세관장에게 말을 거셨으며, 그 사람의 집에서 저녁을 드시겠다는 말씀까지 하셨습니다! 더군다나 자캐오는 그리 대단한 거물도 아니었고, 사람들이 싫어하던 세리에 불과했습니다.
예수님께서는 성령께 지극히 열려 있는 분이어서, 많은 사람들의 기대와는 완전히 다른 방식으로 사람들에게 다가가셨지요. 그분은 길 잃고 상처받은 이들을 찾아내라는 하느님 아버지의 부르심을 잘 알고 있었는데, 이는 물질적으로 가난한 사람만이 아니라 마음이 궁핍한 사람을 뜻하는 말씀이었지요. 그래서 예수님께서는 성령이 고취하시는 대로 응답하여 자캐오를 부르셨습니다. 예수님께서는 자캐오가 그분의 말씀에 마음을 열었음을 보시고, 계획을 바꾸어 그를 구원에 한 걸음 더 가까이 이끌기 위한 시간을 내셨습니다. 그리고 그에게는 그 한 걸음으로 족했습니다. 자캐오는 회개하고 주님을 맞아들였으며, 그리스도 안에서 완전히 새로운 삶을 살기 시작했습니다.
아십니까? 예수님을 그렇게 극적으로 움직이신 성령이 바로 당신 안에 계시다는 것을 말입니다. 예수님께서는 당신도 그분이 이 땅에서 하셨던 것처럼 살기를 바라십니다. 즉 성령의 말씀에 마음을 열고, 상처받은 이들을 기꺼이 도와주고, 절망한 이들에게 위로의 말을 건네며, 어찌할 바를 모르는 이들에게 지혜를 나누어 주기를 바라십니다. 겁주려는 말처럼 들리겠지만 전혀 그렇지 않습니다. 성령께 귀 기울이는 연습만 하면 남을 돕는 당신의 능력이 조금씩 그러나 확실하게 커 갈 것입니다.
그리스도 안에서 우리는 온갖 영적인 축복을 받았으며, 성령의 말씀을 듣는 능력은 그런 축복 가운데 하나입니다. 성령께서 우리 마음에 새로이 샘솟아, 우리가 그분의 음성을 듣고 그분의 이끄심에 더 많이 마음을 열 수 있게 해 주십사 기도드립시다.
“예수님, 제게 성령을 보내시어
당신의 음성을 들을 수 있게 하시니 감사합니다.
제가 당신의 사랑과 은총을 나눌 기회를
놓치지 않도록 도와주십시오.
저와 마주치는 모든 이 안에서 당신의 권능이 활동하심을 보고자 하는 불타는 열망으로 저를 채워 주십시오.”
