"How much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?" (Luke 11:13)
Most of us are familiar with temptation. We know when we're being tempted to lust, envy, or greed. But what about the temptation to doubt God's goodness? Have you ever doubted that God has really forgiven your sins? Or that he will ever fulfill his plans for you? Have you ever doubted his willingness to bless you, even when you know he has the power to do so? While we may not think this way constantly, we've all done so at one time or another.
In these few words, Jesus challenged his disciples ­ and each of us ­ to put aside any doubts about the Father's care. He knows how fragile our trust can be. Ever since Satan asked Eve, "Did God really tell you not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?" we've been inclined to mistrust our heavenly Father (Genesis 3:1). We think that we have to get by on our own, but Jesus wants us to know God the Father for who he is ­ love!
If we listen carefully, we can almost hear the urgency in Jesus' words: "Go ahead! Seek and you will find. Please, I beg you, knock! The door will be opened! Ask my Dad. Just ask him, and you will receive!" Jesus is confident that if we only knew the Father the way he knows him, our joy would be complete and unassailable (John 15:11). It's why Jesus died for us, after all. He wanted to set us free from sin so that we could be reunited with God and share in his incredible goodness.
So how will you respond to Jesus' question? Have you accepted the fact that you are indeed God's son or daughter? If not, take the plunge! The next time you need something, try asking him with a more expectant faith. We already know that he hears our prayers, and that he only wants the best for us. We've been sealed with the blood of his son, Jesus, so we can approach his throne with confidence. The simple fact is, nothing is impossible for God!

"Lord, thank you for revealing your Father to us!

Help me to know him as my Father too, and to trust in his love and compassion."

“하늘에 계신 아버지께서야 당신께 청하는 이들에게 성령을 얼마나 더 잘 주시겠느냐?”(루카 11,13)
우리 대부분은 유혹이 어떤 건지 잘 알고 있고, 언제 정욕이나 시기심, 탐욕의 유혹을 느끼는지도 압니다. 하지만 하느님의 선하심을 의심하려는 유혹은 어떻습니까? 당신은 하느님께서 당신의 죄를 정말로 용서하셨음을 의심해 본 적이 있습니까? 또는 그분께서 당신을 위한 계획을 이루시리라는 것은요? 당신은 그분께서 당신에게 강복하실 권능이 있다는 것은 알지만, 과연 복을 주고 싶어하시는지 의혹을 품은 적은 없습니까? 늘 이런 식으로 생각하지는 않겠지만, 다들 한두 번 정도는 그런 적이 있을 테지요.
예수님께서는 이 짧은 말씀으로 제자들에게, 그리고 우리 모두에게 하느님의 돌보심을 조금도 의심하지 말라고 촉구하셨습니다. 그분께서는 우리의 믿음이 얼마나 깨지기 쉬운지 아십니다. 사탄이 하와에게 “하느님께서 ‘동산의 어떤 나무에서든지 열매를 따 먹어서는 안 된다’고 말씀하셨다는데 정말이냐?” 하고 물은 이후로, 우리는 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지를 의심하려 들었습니다.(창세 3,1) 우리는 자기 자신의 힘으로 헤쳐 나가야 한다고 생각하지만, 예수님께서는 우리가 하느님 아버지가 어떤 분이신지를, 바로 사랑이라는 것을 알기를 원하십니다!
우리가 주의를 기울여 듣는다면 예수님의 말씀에 담긴 절박함을 알아들을 수 있습니다. “자, 어서! 구하라, 그러면 찾을 것이다. 제발 부탁이니 두드려라! 문이 열릴 것이다! 아버지께 청하여라. 청하기만 하면 너희는 받을 것이다!” 예수님께서는 그분이 아버지를 아는 것처럼 우리가 그렇게 아버지를 알기만 하면 우리의 기쁨이 완전하고 견고하리라고 확신하십니다.(요한 15,11) 예수님께서 우리를 위해 돌아가신 것은 결국 그 때문이었습니다. 그분은 우리를 죄에서 풀려나게 하시어 우리가 하느님과 다시 일치를 이루고 그분의 놀라운 선하심에 동참하게 되기를 원하셨습니다. 그러니 당신은 예수님의 질문에 어떻게 답하겠습니까? 당신이 참으로 하느님의 아들딸이라는 사실을 받아들입니까? 그렇지 않다면 과감히 받아들이십시오! 다음번에 도움이 필요할 때는 그분이 들어주시리라는 더 큰 믿음을 갖고 그분께 청해 보십시오. 우리는 그분께서 우리의 기도를 듣고 계시며, 우리에게 가장 좋은 것을 주려 하신다는 것을 이미 압니다. 우리는 그분의 아드님이신 예수님의 피로 인장이 찍혔으니 당당하게 그분의 어좌에 가까이 나아갈 수 있습니다. 분명한 것은 하느님께 불가능이란 없다는 사실입니다!

드러내 보이시니 감사합니다!
저 또한 그분을 ‘저의 아버지’로 알고 그분의 사랑과 연민을 믿게 도와주십시오.”
