"They were astonished at his teaching." (Luke 4:32)
When was the last time Jesus astonished you? When was the last time he showed you that he was not just another philosopher or religious figure? The people of Galilee were surprised because his word had authority. He didn't just give suggestions for moral living, he said, "Rise and walk!" He didn't just proclaim a favorable year of the Lord, he brought it about by casting out a demon from the man in the synagogue.
Jesus has power. The gospel is not weak or ineffective. Because we are Jesus' witnesses in the world, he wants us to be convinced of his power to transform, heal, and bring life. How else can we bring the good news to those still in darkness? Jesus doesn't want us to be resigned to mediocrity. He wants us to see him for who he is, the one who can transform any life by the power of his word. Why? Because he wants to do something astonishing in our lives, even today!
Have you felt deflated in your spiritual life? Maybe there's a pattern of sin that just keeps tripping you up, and you feel crippled. Let Jesus speak his healing words and give you the power to rise and walk away from your failings. Do you struggle with negative thoughts? Maybe you can't seem to avoid accusations or judgments against other people. Let Jesus silence the devil's whisperings and fill your mind with his mercy and love instead. Is it sometimes hard to believe that Jesus will intervene in a difficult situation? Perhaps a loved one is ill; a family member can't find work; or a coworker has a substance abuse problem. Let Jesus give you greater expectation that he really can bring healing, and go ahead and pray for healing, deliverance, freedom!
Jesus is just as able to astonish us now as he was thousands of years ago. As we turn to him and ask him to show us his power, we will see not only our own lives changing. We will become more powerful witnesses for him in our everyday lives!

let my transformation bring his presence
into the world around me!"

가장 최근에 예수님 때문에 놀라움을 느낀 적은 언제입니까? 예수님이 다른 현인이나 종교적 인물과는 다르다는 것을 마지막으로 당신에게 보여 주신 때는 언제입니까? 갈릴래아 사람들은 그분의 말씀에 권위가 있는 것을 보고 놀랐습니다. 그분은 도덕적인 삶이 어떤 것인지 보여 주시는 데에 그치지 않고 “일어나 걸어가거라!” 하고 말씀하셨습니다. 또한 주님의 은혜로운 때가 왔다고 그저 선포만 하신 게 아니라, 회당에 있던 사람에게서 마귀를 내쫓으시어 은혜로운 때가 되게 하셨습니다.
예수님은 능력이 있으시며, 복음은 나약하지도 쓸모없지도 않습니다. 우리는 이 세상에서 예수님의 증인이기에, 예수님은 당신에게 변화시키고 치유하며 생명을 주는 능력이 있음을 우리가 굳게 믿기 바라십니다. 그렇지 않고서야 아직 어둠 속에 있는 이들에게 어떻게 복음을 전할 수 있겠습니까? 예수님께서는 우리가 평범한 상태에 머물러 있기를 원하시지 않습니다. 그분이 누구신지를, 말씀의 능력으로 어떤 삶이라도 바꿀 수 있는 분이심을 우리가 깨닫기 원하십니다. 왜냐고요? 바로 오늘이라도 우리 삶에서 무언가 놀라운 일을 하려 하시기 때문이지요!
신앙생활에서 자신감을 잃은 적이 있습니까? 습관적으로 걸려 넘어져서 무력감을 느끼게 만드는 죄가 있을지도 모릅니다. 예수님께서 당신께 치유의 말씀을 건네시고 잘못을 털고 일어나 걸어갈 힘을 주시게 하십시오. 부정적인 생각과 씨름하고 있습니까? 다른 이들에 대한 비난이나 비판을 그만두려 해도 그러지 못하고 있을지 모르지요. 예수님께서 마귀의 속삭임을 잠재우고 여러분의 마음을 그분의 자비와 사랑으로 대신 채우시게 하십시오. 예수님께서 어려운 처지에 놓인 이를 중재하시리라는 것이 때로 믿어지지 않습니까? 사랑하는 이가 아프거나 가족이 직장을 못 구하거나 동료가 약물 남용으로 고생할 수 있습니다. 그럴 때 예수님에게서 보다 큰 믿음, 그분께서는 정말로 치유해 주실 수 있다는 확신을 받아서, 그분께 나아가 치유와 구원, 해방을 청하세요!
예수님께서는 수천 년 전 그러셨던 것처럼 지금 우리를 놀라게 하실 수 있습니다. 우리가 그분께 향하여 그분의 능력을 보여 달라고 청한다면, 우리는 우리 자신의 삶이 바뀌는 것을 볼 뿐만 아니라, 매일의 삶에서 더욱 힘차게 그분을 증언하게 될 것입니다!

예수님을 보내시어 말씀이 사람이
되게 하셨습니다.
예수님께서 저의 삶을 치유해 주실 때,
저의 변화로 그분의 현존을 제 주위에
전하게 해 주십시오!”
