What caused such a dramatic change in the lives of these believers from Thessalonika? Did they just listen to Paul's message, decide it was true, and start doing good works? Not at all. Paul reminded them that his gospel came not just with words but with the Holy Spirit and power!
At its core, the gospel is about each of us dying with Jesus on the cross, rising with him, and then receiving the explosive and life-changing power of the Holy Spirit to go out and make disciples of all nations. How great is that's Rather than it just being up to our willpower to try to help others, we are offered the greatest resource of all: Jesus Christ himself, present in us through the Holy Spirit.
This is what God wants to confirm in our hearts every time we pray, every time we receive the Eucharist, and every time we repent of our sins. He wants to convince us that the Holy Spirit, not us, is the power behind our works of mercy, our intercessory prayers, and our service in our parish and community.
Brothers and Sisters, our faith is more about what Jesus has done for us than what we have done for him. What we do for Jesus is meant to be a direct result of his saving work in us, rescuing us from a life of sin and hopelessness. So let's get out there and make an impact on the world today!
Do you believe that by sitting down to read your ures and this little meditation, you have already taken a step? You have turned to the power of the Holy Spirit. Now make the decision to stay with Jesus, to listen to his Spirit while you are going about your daily chores. Look for the opportunities he will give you to share with someone what Jesus has done for youhow he has enabled you to be a more loving spouse or parent, how he has healed you physically or emotionally, or how he has changed your outlook on life. You will be amazed at what can happen when you keep the Holy Spirit at the center of all you do.

복음의 핵심은 우리 한 사람 한 사람이 십자가상의 예수님과 함께 죽어서 부활한 다음, 삶을 송두리째 바꿔놓는 성령의 폭발적인 힘을 받아 밖으로 나가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼는 것입니다. 얼마나 대단합니까? 그런데 이 일은 다른 이를 돕고자 애쓰는 우리의 의지력에 달렸다기보다는, 우리가 부여받은, 무엇보다도 위대한 힘의 원천 덕분에 할 수 있는 일입니다. 그것은 바로 성령을 통해 우리 안에 계시는 예수 그리스도이십니다.
하느님께서는 우리가 기도할 때마다, 성체를 영할 때마다, 그리고 죄를 뉘우칠 때마다 우리 마음속에 이를 재삼 확인시켜 주고 싶어하십니다. 그분은 우리가 본당과 공동체에서 자선을 베풀고 중재기도를 바치며 봉사활동을 하는 이면에는 우리의 힘이 아니라 성령의 힘이 뒷받침되고 있음을 우리가 깨닫기를 바라십니다.
형제자매 여러분, 우리의 믿음은 우리가 예수님께 해 드린 것보다는 예수님께서 우리에게 해 주신 것에 달려 있습니다. 우리가 예수님께 해 드리는 것도 사실 우리를 죄와 절망의 삶에서 구하신 예수님의 구원 사업에서 직접 비롯된 결과입니다. 그러니 오늘 당장 밖으로 나가서 이 세상을 변화시키는 힘이 되어 봅시다!
가만히 앉아 성경구절과 이 작은 묵상집을 읽는 것으로 당신은 이미 한 발자국을 내딛었다는 게 믿기십니까? 당신은 성령의 힘을 향해 돌아섰습니다. 이제 당신이 일상적인 일을 하는 동안에도 성령께 귀 기울이고 예수님과 함께 머물겠다고 마음먹으십시오. 예수님께서 당신에게 하신 일을 다른 이와 나누라고 기회를 주실 테니 이를 놓치지 마십시오. 그분이 어떻게 당신을 더욱 애정 넘치는 배우자나 부모로 만드셨는지, 그분이 어떻게 당신을 육체적으로나 정서적으로 낫게 하셨는지, 또는 그분이 어떻게 당신의 인생관을 바꾸었는지 다른 이와 나누십시오. 무슨 일을 하든지 그 중심에 성령을 두면 놀랄 만한 일이 일어날 것입니다.
“예수님, 중요한 것은 제가 아니라 당신이며 당신께서 저를 통해 이루시려는 일이라는 것을 제가 명심하도록 도와주십시오.
