November 4, 2007, Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

CROWD CONTROL
"He was trying to see what Jesus was like, but being small of stature, was unable to do so because of the crowd." —Luke 19:3
So many people are trying to see what Jesus is like. But they're small and the crowd is large. Sometimes the crowd consists not of people around us but rather things inside us. How many have a crowd of fears, doubts, and selfish desires inside? To see Jesus we must fight our way through the crowd (Lk 8:45) or climb above it.
If I told you to go to Confession right now, a crowd would form for some of you. You may feel afraid. Before long, you'd have a hundred reasons why you're not going. You have to fight through the crowd to touch Jesus and be washed in His blood. What if I told you to go to Mass daily, lead someone to Christ, or tithe? For many of us, another crowd of sin, selfishness, doubt, fear, and anxiety would form.
We must climb the tree of faith above the crowd and fight by faith through the crowd. Don't be crowded out of eternal life; enter in by faith.

Sometimes the crowd does NOT consist of people around us BUT rather OF things inside us. 이 때, not... but 의 위치를 바꾸고, "친절하게" of (consist 에 걸리는)를 반복해 줘도 됩니다. 군중 통제
“예수님께서 어떠한 분이신지 보려고 애썼지만 군중에 가려 볼 수가 없었다. 키가 작았기 때문이다.”—루카 19,3
많은 사람들이 예수님을 뵈려고 시도합니다. 그러나 그들은 작고 군중들은 거대합니다. 때때로 군중은, 우리 주변의 사람들이 아니라 우리 마음 안에 있는 걱정거리로 이루어지기도 합니다. 우리 안에는 두려움과 의심과 이기적인 욕망의 군중이 얼마나 많이 있습니까? 예수님을 뵙기 위해선 군중을 뚫고 나가거나 (루카8,45) 그들 위로 올라가야 합니다.
만약 지금 당장 고백성사를 하라고 한다면, 어떤 사람들에게는 군중이 모여듭니다. 두려울지도 모르겠습니다. 얼마 지나지 않아, 여러분은 (고백성사에) 가지 않는 수많은 핑계를 대게 될 것입니다. 예수님을 만지려면 군중을 헤쳐 나가야 하고, 예수님의 피로 씻겨져야 합니다. 만약 매일미사에 참례하고, 어떤 이를 주님께 전교하라고 한다거나, 십일조를 내라고 한다면요? 또 다른 종류의 군중 즉, 이기심, 의심, 그리고 걱정이 생기는 경우가 많습니다.
우리는 믿음의 나무를 타고 군중 위로 올라가야 하며 믿음으로 군중을 헤쳐 나가야 합니다. 영원한 생명에서 밀려나지 말고 믿음으로 들어가십시오.
