EVENHANDEDNESS
"With God there is no favoritism." —Romans 2:11
You cannot buy your way into heaven. Jesus spoke severely with the Pharisees, teachers of the people (Lk 11:42), and the lawyers (Lk 11:46). They thought just because they knew the Law and the ropes that they could buy their way into the kingdom of God. God "will repay every man for what he has done" (Rm 2:6).
We look about us today and often ask: "Why do the evil prosper and the good suffer? Why do we see no justice among those thirsting for justice today? Why do we see repression throughout so much of our modern world?" The answers are not always clear and precise, but the answers to all these questions can be resolved only by God, Who shows no partiality (Rm 2:11) and Who cannot be bribed. He knows of no privileged class, nor is He a respecter of the high and mighty of this world (cf Mt 22:16).
All evil will be punished (Rm 2:9) and no one will escape from His strong right hand. Our lives must be lives of men and women dedicated to assisting one another and not lording it over one another (Mt 20:25-27).

"하느님께서는 사람을 차별하지 않으시기 때문입니다." —로마 2:11
천국에 가는 열쇠를 살수 없습니다. 예수님은 이스라엘 사람들의 스승인 바리사이들에게(루카 11,42) 그리고 율법가들에게(루카 11,46) 심한 말씀을 하십니다. 그들은 율법을 잘 알고 있기 떄문에 또는 하느님 나라에 가는 방법을 잘 알고 있다고 생각합니다. 하느님께서는 “각자에게 그 행실대로 갚으실 것입니다”(로마 2,6).
우리는 주위를 둘러보고 종종 다음과 같은 질문을 합니다. “왜 악인(惡人)은 번창하는데 선인(善人)은 고통을 받고 있습니까? 정의를 갈망하는 사람들 사이에서 정의를 찾을 수 없는 건가요? 사회 전반적으로 억압이 왜 만연한 것일까요?” 그 대답은 항상 분명하거나 명확하지 않습니다만 이 질문의 답은 한 분인, 사람을 차별하지 않으시고(로마 2,11) 뇌물도 받지 않으시는 분인 하느님만이 해결하실 수 있습니다. 그분은 특권층에 대해 알지 못하고 이세상의 지위와 권력으로 사람을 차별하지 않으십니다(마태 22,16 참조).
악을 저지르는 자는 누구나 벌을 받을 것(로마 2,9)입니다. 어떤 누구도 주님의 강한 오른손을 벗어날 수는 없습니다. 우리는 서로 도와주려고 애쓰며 다른 사람 위에 군림하려 하지 말아야 합니다(마태 20,25-27).
