"Continue, therefore, to live in Christ Jesus the Lord, in the spirit in which you received Him." —Colossians 2:6
No matter how long and how deep has been our relationship with Christ, we always face the danger of falling away from our "sincere and complete devotion to Christ" (2 Cor 11:3). We can be deceived through an "empty, seductive philosophy" (Col 2:8) and "blinded by the god of the present age" (2 Cor 4:4). We can "have an evil and unfaithful spirit and fall away from the living God" (Heb 3:12).
"Our desire is that each of you show the same zeal till the end, fully assured of that for which you hope. Do not grow lazy, but imitate those who, through faith and patience, are inheriting the promises" (Heb 6:11-12). We must discipline our own bodies and master them "for fear that after having preached to others" we ourselves should be rejected (1 Cor 9:27). "Let us lay aside every encumbrance of sin which clings to us and persevere in running the race which lies ahead; let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus" (Heb 12:1-2).
"Hence do not grow despondent or abandon the struggle" (Heb 12:3). "Be solicitous to make your call and election permanent, brothers; surely those who do so will never be lost. On the contrary, your entry into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for" (2 Pt 1:10-11).

deceive 속이다, 기만하다. 1. (D; tr.) deceive about …에 대해 속이다, 기만하다. She deceived them about her intentions. 그녀는 그들에게 자기의 의도를 속였다.
each of you show : (여러분 중 각자가 ... 을 보여줄 것을) 여기서 대명사로 쓰인 each 는 원래 단수취급. 어법적으로는 each of you shows ... 가 돼야 하나, 여기서는 문두에 "Our desire" 가 나와, 마치 가정법 현재처럼 쓰였음. 즉, " 정말 우리의 열망은 여러분 각자가 <반드시> 끝까지 변치 않는 열정을 보여달라는 것입니다"라는 뉘앙스. 주문에 desire, demand, propose, suggest 등이 올 때 종속문의 동사가 현재 원형을 취하는 경우가 자주 있습니다. 전하고자 하는 뜻을 더욱 강조하는 용법.
seductive 유혹하는, 매혹적인, 매력적인. a seductive woman/smile/look 매력적인 여성/미소/외모 This offer of a high salary and a company car is very seductive. 높은 임금과 회사 차 제공은 매우 매력적이다.
master …의 주인이 되다, …을 정복하다, 굴복시키다; …을 억제하다; …을 길들이다.
encumbrance 1. 거추장스러운 것, 방해물, 귀찮은 것, 걸리는 것, 두통거리. 2. 부양 가족(특히 어린아이).
persevere 견디다, 참다; 꾸준히 해내다. 1. (D; intr.) persevere at[in] …을 꾸준히 하다.
despondent 의기소침한, 낙담한. 1. despondent about[over] …에 대해 낙담한.
solicitous 염려하는; 노력하는. 1. solicitous about [of] …을 염려하는.
On the contrary 그와는 반대로, 오히려. (문장 첫머리에 나옴.) [비교] to the contrary 그와는 반대로. (문장 끝에 나옴; on the contrary 와 동일한 의미)

끝까지 같은 열성으로…
"여러분은 그리스도 예수님을 주님으로 받아들였으니 그분 안에서 살아가십시오." —콜로 2:6
주님을 믿은 지 아무리 오래되었더라도 그리고 아무리 신앙심이 깊더라도 “그리스도를 향한 성실하고 순수한 마음이”(2코린 11,3) 없어질 가능성은 항상 존재합니다. “사람을 속이는 헛된 철학“(콜로 2, 8)에 속아넘어갈 수 있으며, “이 세상의 신이 마음을 어둡게”(2코린4,4)하여 따라갈 수도 있습니다. “믿지 않는 악한 마음을 품고서 살아 계신 하느님을 저버릴 수도” (히브3,12) 있습니다.
“여러분 각자가 희망이 실현되도록 끝까지 같은 열성을 보여 주기를 간절히 바랍니다. 그리하여 게으른 사람이 되지 말고, 약속된 것을 믿음과 인내로 상속받는 이들을 본받는 사람이 되라는 것입니다” (히브6,11-12). 우리는 몸을 단련하여 우리 몸을 지배하여야 합니다 “다른 이들에게 복음을 선포하고 나서”(1코린 9,27) 우리자신이 실격자가 될까 두렵기 때문입니다. “우리는 달라붙은 죄를 벗어 버리고, 달려야 할 길을 꾸준히 달려갑시다. 예수님을 바라보면서”(히브 12,2-2)
“그러면 낙심하여 지쳐 버리는 일이 없을 것입니다”(히브12,3). “형제 여러분, 여러분이 받은 소명과 선택이 굳건해지도록 애쓰십시오. 그렇게 하면 여러분은 결코 넘어지지 않을 것입니다. 그리하여 여러분은 우리의 주님이시며 구원자이신 예수 그리스도의 영원한 나라에 들어갈 자격을 충분히 갖추게 될 것입니다” (2베드1,10-11).
