ASKING ANYWAY
"Until now you have not asked for anything in My name." John 16:24
끊임없이 청하여라
“지금까지 너희는 내 이름으로 아무것도 청하지 않았다.” 요한 16, 24
When I take my youngest son to piano lessons, he always asks me to buy him an ice cream cone. Sometimes I have no money or time; other times I do buy him the cone. Yet even if it's been weeks without a cone, he never gets discouraged and neglects to ask.
제가 막내 아들을 데리고 피아노 레슨을 갈 때면 아이는 항상 저에게 아이스크림을 사 달라고 조릅니다. 어쩔 때는 제가 시간이 없거나 잔돈이 없어 안 되지만 그렇지 않을 때면 아이에게 아이스크림을 사 줍니다. 그런데 아이는 몇 주를 아이스크림을 사 주지 않아도 기 죽지도 않고 매번 잊지 않고 또 조릅니다.
Jesus Himself tells us: "I give you My assurance, whatever you ask the Father, He will give you in My name" (Jn 16:23). Often Christians are disappointed when the answer to a sincere prayer request was not what was asked for. One response is to lose faith in Jesus' promise, get discouraged, and to decide not to ask Jesus for certain things. Another response is the childlike response of my son: to keep asking persistently, never losing heart (Lk 18:1).
예수님 당신께서는 우리에게 말씀하십니다: “내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 너희가 내 이름으로 아버지께 청하는 것은 무엇이든지 그분께서 너희에게 주실 것이다” (요한 16, 23). 그리스도인들은 간절히 기도하고 청했으나 원했던 응답을 듣지 못하면 종종 실망하게 됩니다. 예수님의 약속에 대한 신뢰를 잃고, 용기도 잃어 어떤 일에 대해서는 다시 예수님께 청하지 않는 반응을 보이기도 합니다. 그러나 제 아들의 반응이 그랬듯 어린 아이처럼 낙심하지 말고 끊임없이 청해야 합니다 (루카18,1).
Prayer: So much is wrong with today's world. Is it because we have asked selfishly, and not rightly, that is, in Jesus name? (Jas 4:3) I wonder if "until now" we have asked for much of anything in Jesus' name (Jn 16:24). We need the Holy Spirit to be able to ask in Jesus' name (Jn 16:24) and to do so persistently. During this Pentecost novena, let us fervently beg to receive the Holy Spirit deeply, so that we may ask in Jesus' name for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven (Mt 6:10). Come, Holy Spirit!
기도: 이 세상에는 너무나 많은 것이 잘못돼 있습니다. 저희가 예수님의 이름으로 바르게 청하지 않고 제 욕정을 채우려고 청하였기 때문입니까? (야고 4, 3) 저는 “지금까지” 제가 얼마나 예수님의 이름으로 청하였는지 모릅니다 (요한 16, 24) 우리는 성령이 계셔야 예수님의 이름으로 청하고(요한 16, 24) 끊임없이 청할 수 있습니다. 이 오순절 9일 기도 동안 저희가 열렬히 청하여 깊이 성령 받게 하시고 그리하여 저희가 예수님의 뜻이 하늘에서와 같이 땅에서도 이루어지도록 예수님 이름으로 기도하게 하소서 (마태6,10). 오소서, 성령이여!
Prayer: Father, we ask, in Jesus' name, for Catholics to repent deeply, receive the Holy Spirit in fullness, live the radical newness of their Baptism daily, be perfect in holiness, desire to attend Mass daily, foster and receive religious vocations, evangelize the world, change the culture of death to a civilization of love and life, serve the poor and lowly, submit in unity to the Magisterium...
기도: 아버지, 우리는 예수님의 이름으로 가톨릭 신자들이 깊이 회개하고 성령을 충만히 받아 세례의 다시 태어남으로 매일 새로 살게 하시고 온전히 거룩하게 하시며 매일 미사에 참여하고 종교적 소명을 기르고 받아들여 세상에 말씀을 전하고 죽음의 문화를 사랑과 생명의 문명으로 바꾸며 가난하고 비천한 자들을 위해 봉사하고 하나된 마음으로 교회에 순종하게 하소서...

Praise: Although often discouraged by seeing no results, the Wilsons continuously pray for a son with emotional problems.
