[21] And He (Jesus) began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." [22] And all spoke well of Him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth; and they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?" [23] And He said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, 'Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here also in your own country.'" [24] And He said, "Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country. [25] But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land; [26] and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. [27] And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian." [28] When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. [29] And they rose up and put Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow on the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down headlong. [30] But passing through the midst of them He went away.

21 예수께서는 "이 성서의 말씀이 오늘 너희가 들은 이 자리에서 이루어졌다" 하고 말씀하셨다. 22 사람들은 모두 예수를 칭찬하였고 그가 하시는 은총의 말씀에 탄복하며 "저 사람은 요셉의 아들이 아닌가?" 하고 수군거렸다. 23 예수께서는 "너희는 필경 '의사여, 네 병이나 고쳐라' 는 속담을 들어 나더러 가파르나움에서 했다는 일을 네 고장인 여기에서도 해 보라고 하고 싶을 것이다" 하시고는 24 또 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "사실 어떤 예언자도 자기 고향에서는 환영을 받지 못한다. 25 잘 들어라. 엘리야 시대에 삼 년 반 동안이나 하늘이 닫혀 비가 내리지 않고 온 나라에 심한 기근이 들었을 때 이스라엘에는 과부가 많았지만 26 하느님께서는 엘리야를 그들 가운데 아무에게도 보내시지 않고 다만 시돈 지방 사렙다 마을에 사는 어떤 과부에게만 보내 주셨다. 27 또 예언자 엘리사 시대에 이스라엘에는 많은 나병 환자가 살고 있었지만 그들은 단 한 사람도 고쳐 주시지 않고 시리아 사람인 나아만 만을 깨끗하게 고쳐 주셨다." 28 회당에 모였던 사람들은 이 말씀을 듣고는 모두 화가 나서 29 들고 일어나 예수를 산 벼랑까지 끌고 가서 밀어 떨어뜨리려 하였다. 30 그러나 예수께서는 그들의 한가운데를 지나서 자기의 갈 길을 가셨다.

Commentary:
20-22. Christ's words in verse 21 show us the authenticity with which He preached and explained the Scriptures: "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." Jesus teaches that this prophecy, like the other main prophecies in the Old Testament, refers to Him and finds its fulfillment in Him (cf. Luke 24:44ff). Thus, the Old Testament can be rightly understood only in the light of the New―as the risen Christ showed the Apostles when He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures (cf. Luke 24:45), an understanding which the Holy Spirit perfected on the day of Pentecost (cf. Acts 2:4).

20-22. 21절의 예수님 말씀은 예수님께서 설교하고 성서를 설명할 때 얼마나 큰 확신을 가지고 계셨는가를 보여줍니다: “이 성서의 말씀이 오늘 너희가 들은 이 자리에서 이루어졌다.” 예수님께서는 오늘의 예언이 구약의 다른 중요한 예언들과 마찬가지로 그 자신을 가리키고 그 자신 안에서 이루어진다는 것을 가르치십니다 (루카 24, 44 참조). 그래서 구약은 신약 안에서만 올바로 이해될 수 있습니다 -- 부활하신 예수님께서 제자들의 마음을 열어 성서를 이해하도록 하신 것과 같은(루카 24, 45 참조), 오순절에 성령께서 완전하게 하신 그 이해(理解)입니다 (사도행전 2, 4 참조)
22-29. At first the people of Nazareth listened readily to the wisdom of Jesus' words. But they were very superficial; in their narrow-minded pride they felt hurt that Jesus, their fellow-townsman, had not worked in Nazareth the wonders He had worked elsewhere. They presume they have a special entitlement and they insolently demand that He perform miracles to satisfy their vanity, not to change their hearts. In view of their attitude, Jesus performs no miracle (His normal response to lack of faith: cf., for example, His meeting with Herod in Luke 23:7-11); He actually reproaches them, using two examples taken from the Old Testament (cf. 1 Kings 17:9 and 2 Kings 5:14), which show that one needs to be well-disposed if miracles are to lead to faith. His attitude so wounds their pride that they are ready to kill Him. This whole episode is a good lesson about understanding Jesus. We can understand Him only if we are humble and are genuinely resolved to make ourselves available to Him.
22-29. 처음에 나자렛 사람들은 지혜로운 예수님 말씀에 귀를 기울였습니다. 그러나 그들은 얕은 소견을 가지고 있었습니다; 그 들의 좁은 소견으로는, 그들 마을의 사람인 예수님께서 다른 곳에서 행한 기적을 나자렛에서는 하지 않는 것에 대해 자존심이 손상됨을 느꼈습니다. 그들은 그들이 특별 대우를 받을 자격이 있다고 생각했습니다. 그래서 예수님께서 그들의 마음을 변화시킬 것이 아니라 그들의 자만심을 충족시켜 줄 기적을 행하실 것을 거만하게 요구했습니다. 그들의 태도를 보시고 예수님께서는 아무 기적도 행하지 않으셨습니다 (약한 믿음에 대한 예수님의 정상적인 반응임: 참고로 예를 들면, 루카 복음 23, 7‐11의 헤로데와의 만남에서와 같음; 예수님은 오히려 기적이 믿음으로 이어지기 위해서는 고운 마음을 가져야 한다는 구약의 두 가지의 예 (열왕기 상 17, 9; 열왕기 하 5, 14: 참고로 밑에 전문을 옮겨 놓습니다)를 들어 그들을 꾸짖으셨습니다. 예수님의 그런 태도는 그들의 자존심을 심하게 손상시켜서 그들은 예수님을 죽일 듯 덤볐습니다. 이 모든 에피소드는 예수님을 이해하는데 있어서의 좋은 교훈입니다. 겸손하게 우리 자신을 온전히 예수님께 맡기기로 진심으로 결심할 때에만 예수님을 이해할 수 있습니다.
30. Jesus does not take flight but withdraws majestically, leaving the crowd paralyzed. As on other occasions men do Him no harm; it was by God's decree that He died on a cross (cf. John 18:32) when His hour had come.
30. 예수님은 도망치지 않으시고 당당하게 그 자리를 떠나심으로 해서 군중들을 어리둥절하게 하셨습니다. 다른 경우에서도 그랬듯이 사람들은 예수님께 아무 해를 입히지 않습니다; 예수님께서 때가 돼서 십자가 위에서 돌아가신 것은 하느님께서 정하신 일이었습니다. (요한 18, 32 참조)
