WRAPPED PRESENTS

"She was found with Child through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband, an upright man unwilling to expose her to the law, decided to divorce her quietly."  -Matthew 1:18-19

 

포장된 선물들

“그분의 어머니 마리아가 요셉과 약혼하였는데, 그들이 같이 살기 전에 마리아가 성령으로 말미암아 잉태한 사실이 드러났다.마리아의 남편 요셉은 의로운 사람이었고 또 마리아의 일을 세상에 드러내고 싶지 않았으므로, 남모르게 마리아와 파혼하기로 작정하였습니다.” - 마태오 복음서 1:18-19

Like our Christmas presents, Jesus may come wrapped this Christmas. On the first Christmas, He came inside another person, His mother Mary. This Christmas, He may come inside another person, and the wrapping will not be impressive. We will be tempted to throw the package away, assuming nothing of value is inside. Like Joseph, we will be tempted "to divorce her quietly" (Mt 1:19). In doing that, we will unknowingly divorce Jesus and therefore Christmas.

예수님께서는 이번 크리스마스에 크리스마스 선물처럼 포장되신 채 오실 것입니다. 첫 번째 크리스마스에서, 예수님께서는 다른 사람, 즉 예수님의 어머니 마리아 안에서 오셨습니다. 이번 크리스마스는, 또 다른 사람 안에서 오실 수 있습니다. 그 포장은 인상적이지 안을. 것입니다. 우리는 안에 귀중한 것은 없을 것이라 생각하고 그 꾸러미를 버리고 싶을 것입니다. 요셉처럼, 우리는 "남모르게 마리아와 파혼” 하고픈 유혹을 느낄 것입니다 (마태 1:19). 그렇게 하면, 우리는 자기 자신도 모르게 예수님과, 결국에는 크리스마스에서도 멀어지게 것입니다.

 

The innkeeper made the same mistake (Lk 2:7). The Messiah came in the package of a man and his teenage wife. The innkeeper wouldn't accept it. Jesus may come to us inside a poor man. Whatever we do to the least of the brethren, that's what we do to Jesus (Mt 25:40). He may come wrapped in the Bible, and we can easily divorce the Bible quietly and not take time to read it. Jesus always comes wrapped in the Mass. That's why it's called Christ-Mass.

그 여관주인도 똑 같은 실수를 했습니다 (루카 2:7). 주님께서는 남자와 그의 어린 부인으로 오셨습니다. 여관주인은 그 사실을 받아들이지 않았습니다. 예수님께서는 가난한 사람을 통해 우리에게 오실 지도 모릅니다. 우리가 가장 작은 이에게 대하는 태도가 곧 우리가 예수님을 대하는 태도입니다 (마태 25:40). 예수님께서는 성경에 쌓여서 오실 수도 있습니다. 그리고 우리는 성경을 시간을 들여 읽어보지도 않고 성경에서 멀어질 수 있습니다. 예수님께는 언제나 미사 중에 오십니다. 그래서 Christ(그리스도)-Mass(미사) 라고 부르는 것입니다.

 

When God sends His angel to warn us against throwing away a package with Jesus inside, let's listen.

하느님께서 예수님이 들어 계신 선물 꾸러미를 버리지 말라고 경고해주시려고 천사를 보내시면, 우리모두 귀를 기울입시다.
