The Bible tells us what to do and not to do but doesn't give us the power. We have the power to live holy lives, not by knowing the Bible, but by faith in Jesus. The Bible tells us hundreds of things we must do and hundreds more we must not do. These things in the Bible are not suggestions but commandments.

성서는 우리에게 해야 할 일과 하지 말아야 할 일을 가르쳐 줄 뿐 실천할 힘을 주지는 않습니다. 성서를 이해하는 것으로서가 아닌 예수님에 대한 믿음으로 성스러운 삶을 살아갈 힘은 바로 우리 자신에게 있습니다. 성서는 우리가 반드시 해야 할 수백 가지 것과 절대로 해서는 안 되는 수백 가지 이상의 것을 알려줍니다. 이는 제안이 아닌 계명입니다.

 

The Bible details our responsibilities and the devastating effects of not fulfilling them. Everything is locked into a system of living, revealed by the Bible. If we don't fit into this system, we suffer the consequences. Yet since we can't do what the system requires, we're "locked in"; "damned if we do and damned if we don't."

성서는 또한 우리의 의무를 자세히 밝히며 이를 실천하지 못했을 때 나타날 파괴적인 결과도 보여줍니다. 모든 것은 성서에 드러난 생활 방식 안에 가두어져 있습니다. 우리가 이 방식에 맞게 살지 못하면 그에 따른 결과로 고통을 받을 것입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 그 방식대로 살지 못하므로 “가두어진” 것입니다. 그대로 살려면 고통을 받을 것이며 그대로 살지 못하면 그 결과로 고통을 받을 것입니다.

 

Faith in Jesus is our only way out (Gal 3:23-26). When we become wearied and burdened by the law of life, we can by faith come to Jesus, Who will refresh us (Mt 11:28). By faith, "there is no condemnation now for those who are in Christ Jesus. The law of the Spirit, the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has freed you from the law of sin and death" (Rm 8:1-2). The law of the Bible reveals the impossibility of doing the absolutely necessary. For those who believe in Jesus, however, all things are possible (Lk 1:37).

가둔 것을 풀고 나갈 수 있는 유일한 길은 바로 예수님에 대한 믿음입니다 (갈라 3:23-26). 우리가 삶의 계명들로 힘들고 지쳤을 때, 우리는 믿음으로 예수님을 찾고, 그분은 우리에게 안식을 주실 것입니다 (마태 11:28).  믿음이 있으면, “그리스도 예수님 안에 있는 이들은 단죄를 받을 일이 없습니다. 그리스도 예수님 안에서 생명을 주시는 성령의 법이 그대를 죄와 죽음의 법에서 해방시켜 주었기 때문입니다” (로마 8:1-2). 성서의 율법은 절대적 요구사항을 실천하는 것이 불가능하다는 것을 보여줍니다. 그러나 예수님을 믿는 자들에게, 불가능한 일은 없습니다(루카 1:37).
