하느님 사랑의 표상

The Catholic Church has suffered heavy losses through the scandalous sexual sins of a few priests. These priests were ordained in the sacrament of Holy Orders to be a sign of God's love for His people. Instead, the sign the world reads through the sins of these priests is that the Church is no longer trustworthy.

일부 사제들의 성범죄 스캔들로 천주교회는 큰 손실을 입었습니다. 이 사제들은 백성을 위한 신품성사를 통해 하느님 사랑의 표징이 되라는 거룩한 소명을 받았으나, 이들이 저지른 죄를 통해 세상이 읽은 표징은 교회도 이제 믿을 수 없게 되었다는 것입니다.

 

Catholic married couples are also a sacrament, an outward sign of God's love for the world. God so loved the world that He created us male and female (Gn 1:27). He poured out His love in our hearts (Rm 5:5) so that married couples would take the lead in showing broken, bruised humanity how much God loves them. Therefore, no Catholic married couple should ever criticize a priest for being a poor sign of God's love. Instead, they should look in the mirror, for a married couple is to be a great sign of God's love. One marriage rich in God's love can greatly build up the Church. Nearly half of Catholic marriages in the USA end in divorce. No wonder the Church is weakened! People simply read the signs and conclude that God is not with the Church because wives and husbands don't love each other (cf Eph 5:23-25, 29-32).

천주교의 결혼한 부부들도 역시 하나의 성사(聖事)이자 세상에 대한 하느님 사랑의 표출입니다. 하느님께서는 세상을 너무도 사랑하셔서 우리를 남자와 여자로 창조하시고 (창조 1:27), 당신의 사랑을 우리의 마음에 부으시어 (로마 5:5), 결혼한 부부들로 하여금 부서지고 멍든 인류에게 하느님이 그들을 얼마나 많이 사랑하는지를 보이는 주역이 되게 하셨습니다. 따라서, 천주교의 결혼한 부부는 하느님의 사랑을 드러내지 못한 성직자들을 결코 비난해서는 안됩니다. 대신, 결혼한 부부로서 하느님 사랑의 위대한 표상이 되고 있는지 스스로 거울에 비춰 보아야 합니다. 하느님 사랑이 충만한 결혼이 멋진 교회를 구성할 수 있습니다. 미국 내 천주교 혼배의 절반 가까이가 이혼으로 끝나고 있으니, 교회가 허약해지는 것이 놀랄 일도 아닙니다! 아내들과 남편들이 서로를 사랑하지 않으니 (참조: 에페 5:23-25, 29-32) 그러한 현상들을 보고 세상은 단순하게 하느님은 교회와 함께 계시지 않은 것으로 결론 짓게 됩니다.

 

Couples, your marriage is not just about the two of you. Your marriage "has been decided in heaven" (Tb 7:11). Renew your love for each other "not because of lust, but for a noble purpose" (Tb 8:7) of building up the kingdom of God.

결혼으로 부부가 된다는 것은 단지 두 사람 만의 문제가 아닙니다. 여러분의 결혼은 “하늘에서 내리신 판결” (토비 7:11) 입니다. 하느님 나라의 건설을 위해 “욕정이 아니라 진실한 마음으로” (토비 8:7) 서로의 사랑을 새롭게 합시다.
