LOVE IS A FOUR-LETTER WORD

 "Love is patient; love is kind." — 1 Corinthians 13:4 

 

사랑이란 두 글자는 

  "사랑은 참고 기다립니다. 사랑은 친절합니다." — 1 코린 13:4

 

God is love (1 Jn 4:16). Without love, we gain nothing (1 Cor 13:3). They'll know we are Christians by our love (Jn 13:35). Love is the essence of the Christian life. Love is an action more than a quality or condition. One translation of 1 Corinthians 13 is: "Love does patient things. Love does the kind thing," etc. Love is not modified by an adjective but expressed by a verb. Furthermore, love does three things and does not do eight things. First, love does patient and kind things. A more exact translation would be: "Love suffers for a long time and removes others' burden."

 하느님은 사랑입니다(1요한4:16). 사랑이 없으면, 아무 것도 소용이 없습니다(1 코린 13:3).  사람들은 우리가 베푸는 사랑으로 우리가 그리스도인임을 압니다(요한 13:35). 사랑은 그리스도 삶에서 기본입니다. 사랑은 조건이나 자질이 아니라 행동입니다(실천하는 것입니다). 코린토 신자들에게 보낸 첫째 서간의 13장은 “사랑은 참고 기다리며 친절합니다”라고 번역합니다. 사랑은 형용사가 붙지 않지만 오히려 동사로 수식을 받습니다. 게다가 사랑은 세가지 일은 하지만 여덟까지 일은 하지 않습니다. 우선 사랑은 참고 기다리며 친절합니다. 좀더 명확한 번역은 “사랑은 오랜 고통을 감수하면서 다른 사람들의 짐을 덜어줍니다.”

 

Love here is not so much feeling good but suffering. It is not self-centered but other-centered. The theme of selflessness is further expressed in the eight things that love does not do. The climax of the passage is: "Love rejoices in the truth." Love is not here related to feelings or sex but to joy and truth. When God speaks of love, He means something much different than we mean. Let us learn of love from God Who is Love (1 Jn 4:16).

사랑은 감정으로 하는 것이 아니라 고통을 참는 것입니다. 사랑은 자기 중심적이 아닌 타인을 우선 배려하는 것입니다. 사랑이 하지 않는 것 여덟까지를 살펴보면 자기를 돌보지 않고 남을 배려하는 데서 나온 표현임을   알게 됩니다. 이 구절의 절정은 “ 사랑은 진실을 두고 기뻐합니다” 입니다. 사랑은 감정이나 섹스에 관련된 것이 아니라 기쁨과 진실과 관련된 것입니다. 하느님이 사랑을 말할 때 우리가 의미하는 것보다 훨씬 더 많은 것을 의미합니다. 사랑이신 하느님에게서 사랑을 배웁시다(1요한 4;16).
