WHAT'S IN A NAME?

 "Do not deceive yourselves: no fornicators, idolaters, or adulterers, no sodomites, thieves, misers, or drunkards, no slanderers or robbers will inherit God's kingdom." — Corinthians 6:9-10

 

이름으로 무엇을 알 수 있습니까?

 “착각하지 마십시오. 불륜을 저지르는 자도 우상 숭배자도 간음하는 자도 남창도 비역하는 자도, 도둑도 탐욕을 부리는 자도 주정꾼도 중상꾼도 강도도 하느님의 나라를 차지하지 못합니다.”—코린토1서 6:9-10

 

 

"Make no mistake about this: no  fornicator, no unclean or  lustful  person -in effect an idolater-has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with worthless arguments. These are sins that bring God's wrath down on the disobedient; therefore have nothing to do with" these sins (Eph 5:5-6).

“이것을 꼭 알아 두십시오. 불륜을 저지르는 자나 더러운 자나 탐욕을 부리는 자 곧 우상 숭배자는 그리스도와 하느님의 나라에서 받을 몫이 없습니다. 여러분은 어느 누구의 허황한 말에도 속아 넘어가지 마십시오. 그러한 것 때문에 하느님의 진노가 순종하지 않는 자들에게 내립니다. 그러므로 그런 자들과 상종하지 마십시오”. (에페소서 5:5-6)

 

Notice that in both passages above, from 1 Corinthians and Ephesians, the language does not refer to sin but to sinners. These sinners are so  entrenched in their chief sin that they can be identified by its name. For instance, an adulterer is someone who is committed to adultery and has not  repented  of it. The adulterer has lost his identity and is now identified by what he has committed to. By contrast, a person so entrenched in Jesus and His lifestyle of obedience and righteousness also is identified by what he has committed to and is called a Christian.

코린토 1서와 에페소서에서 취한 위의 두 문단에서 죄를 언급한 것이 아니라, 죄를 지은 사람에 대해 언급하고 있다는 것에 주목하십시오. 이러한 죄인들은 그들의 주된 죄목으로 너무 낙인 찍혀 있기에 그들의 이름에 의해서 정체를 파악할 수 있습니다. 예를 들면, 간음한 자는 간음을 범하고 그것을 회개하지 않는 사람을 일컫습니다. 간음한 자는 그의 정체성을 잃었고 이제 그가 저지른 일에 의해 그러한 사람으로 인식됩니다. 대조적으로, 예수님과 그분이 보여주신 순종과 정의로움의 생활방식을 굳건히 지켜내는 사람 또한 그가 행한 일에 의해 스스로가 규정되고 그리스도를 믿는 신자로 불려지게 됩니다.

 

Many people are fornicators, adulterers, drunkards, slanderers, etc. Because it's commonplace, we can be deceived into thinking these lifestyles are acceptable. Do not be deceived! (1 Cor 6:9) All arguments to the contrary are worthless (Eph 5:6). Some of us were once entrenched in these sins (1 Cor 6:11), and some still are. So repent immediately! Invite others to do the same. "The person who brings a sinner back from his way will save his soul from death and cancel a multitude of sins" (Jas 5:20).

불륜을 저지르는 자, 간통자, 주정꾼, 중상꾼 등 죄를 지은 사람은 많습니다. 그것이 일반화되어서 우리는 이러한 생활방식이 허용될 수 있다고 착각할 수도 있습니다. 하지만, 착각하지 마십시오!(1 코린 6:9) . 그렇지 않다는 모든 말은 허황된 것(에페소서 5:6)입니다. 우리 중에 몇몇은 한번쯤 이런 죄에 가담한 적이 있고, (1 코린 6:11) 어떤 이들에게는 지금까지도 해당될 수 있습니다. 그러므로 바로 뉘우치시길 바랍니다! 다른 사람에게도 같이 회개할 것을 권하십시오.  “죄인을 그릇된 길에서 돌이켜 놓는 사람은 그 죄인의 영혼을 죽음에서 구원하고 또 많은 죄를 덮어 줄 것입니다” (야고 5:20).
