HUMILITY AND REALITY

"Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, but whoever humbles himself shall be exalted." — Matthew 23:12

 

겸손과 실재

”누구든지 자신을 높이는 이는 낮아지고 자신을 낮추는 이는 높아질 것이다.”— 마태 23:12

 

If we don't humble ourselves, the Lord will do it for us. We can either start off humbled and end up exalted, or start off exalted and end up humbled. Obviously, it behooves us to humble ourselves now. Yet to do this we must know what humility is.

우리 스스로 자신을 낮추지 않으면, 주님께서 우리를 위해 그렇게 하실 것입니다. 겸손함으로 시작하여 높아지게 되거나, 아니면 높아진 상태에서 시작해서 겸손함으로 끝을 맺게 됩니다. 분명히 지금 우리자신을 낮추어야 합니다. 하지만 이렇게 하기 위해서는 겸손함이 무엇인지 알아야만 합니다.

 

Humility is not humiliation. True humility is not putting ourselves down but facing reality. The word "humility" derives from the root word meaning "earth." Humility is being "down-to-earth," realistic. Reality is that we are "earthen vessels" (2 Cor 4:7). We are weak, but He is strong. We cannot save ourselves, no matter how hard we try (Ps 49:8; Is 26:18). Reality is that we are utterly dependent on Jesus for life and eternal life. Reality is that we can trust our heavenly Father completely. He is perfectly faithful. Reality is that we are temples of the Holy Spirit. By faith, we can claim power from on high (Lk 24:49).

겸손함은 부끄러운 것이 아닙니다. 진정한 겸손은 자신을 스스로 낮추는 것이 아니라 현실을 직시하는 것입니다. 겸손이라는 말의 어원은 “땅”이라는 말에서 나왔습니다. 겸손이란 철저히 현실적인 것입니다. 실재하는 우리는 “질그릇”입니다(2코린4:7). 우리는 약하지만 주님은 강하십니다. 우리는 아무리 해도 우리를 구할 수 없습니다(시편49:8 이사야26:18). 우리는 온전히 일생동안 그리고 영원히 주님에 의존해 살게 되는  것이 사실입니다. 우리는 실제로 주님을 완전히 믿을 수 있습니다. 주님은 완전히 약속을 지키시는 분이십니다. 우리는 성령의 신전입니다. 믿음으로, 높은 데서 힘을 얻을 수 있습니다(루카 24:49).

 

Therefore, humility is facing the reality that we can't control our own lives and that we don't have to provide for ourselves. We can be different from others, even vulnerable, because we have a Father. We can live simply because God will take care of us. We can live bold, free, and pure because we have a power within us that is from above us: the power of the Spirit. Humility is living in the realities of holiness, simplicity, and perceptibility. Humble yourself.

그러므로, 겸손은 우리가 우리 삶을 조정할 수 없고 그럴 필요도 없다는 것을 직시하는 것입니다. 우리는 주님이 계시기에 다른 이들과 다를 수도 있고 더 상처 받기도 합니다. 주님이 우리를 돌보시기에 순수하게 살 수 있습니다. 우리 안에 있는, 우리 위로부터 오신 성령의 힘으로 대담하고 자유롭고 순수하게 살 수 있습니다. 겸손은 신성함, 단순함, 그리고 지각함으로 살아가는 것입니다. 자신을 낮추십시오.
