주님의 은총

  "맨 먼저 온 이들은 차례가 되자 자기들은 더 받으려니 생각하였는데, 그들도 한 데나리온씩만 받았다.." —마태 20:10

 

In the parable of the workers in the vineyard, the Master pays the last group first (Mt 20:8). His purpose in paying them first, as it is so often, is to teach the first group, His long-time disciples, more about His mercy. Their responses showed that, although they worked obediently and sacrificially for the Master, they still hadn't grasped and embraced the depth and richness of the Master's mercy. They failed the test. They were watching the Master's money rather than the Master's mercy. "Thereupon they complained" rather than rejoiced (Mt 20:11).

포도밭의 일꾼에 대한 비유에서, 주인은 맨 나중에 온 사람들부터(마태 20:8) 품삯을 줍니다. 그들에게 먼저 지불하는 주인의 의도는, 흔히 그러듯 오랜 제자들인 먼저 온 사람들에게 관용을 가르치려는 것이었습니다. 그런데 주인에게 복종하여 희생적으로 일한 그들이지만 그들은 주인의 너그러움을 이해하지 못합니다. 그들은 주님의 테스트에 합격하지 못한 것입니다. 그들은 주님의 자비보다는 돈에 더 관심을 가졌기 때문입니다. 그래서 그러한 일을 받아들여 기뻐하기는커녕 그들은 “밭 임자에게 투덜거립니다”(마태 20:11).

   

Here's another mercy quiz:

• You struggle unsuccessfully for years to bring Eucharistic adoration to your parish. Then a new convert, a former criminal, succeeds. Do you rejoice in this success or inwardly complain since he gets the credit?
• You are a faithful pastor who prayed, fasted, and preached in an effort to persuade your parishioners to attend regular Confession. A young priest succeeds you and in a few months has long Confession lines. Rejoice or complain?
• Your husband divorces you and leaves you with four young children. You sacrifice for decades to bring them up in the faith. He comes back into their lives when they are grown. When your faithful adult children praise and thank their father, what do you do? Rejoice or complain?

   다음은 주님의 은총에 대한 테스트입니다.

• 당신이 오랫동안 성체조배를 본당에서 하려 했으나 성공하지 못했습니다. 그러나 개종자, 전과자(범죄자)가 이 일을 성공시킵니다. 여러분은 이러한 성공을 기뻐할 것입니까 아님 그가 얻은 신뢰 때문에 내심 불만스러워 할 것입니까?

•만일 당신이 신자들에게 규칙적으로 고백성사를 하도록 설득하기 위해 기도하고 금식하며 설교하는 진실한 목자라고 합시다. 그런데 당신 뒤에 온 한 젊은 목자가 불과 몇 달 만에 고백성사의 줄이 끊이지 않게 만들었다고 합시다. 기뻐하겠습니까 아님 불평하겠습니까?

•당신 남편이 당신에게 4명의 자녀를 남겨놓고 이혼하고 떠났다고 합시다.  수십 년간 그 아이들을 성심껏 키우며 당신을 희생했다고 합시다.  아이들이 다 크자 그 남편이 돌아왔습니다. 그런데 당신의 착한 아이들은 아버지를 보자 기뻐서 환호하며 고마워할 때 당신은 어떻게 하겠습니까? 같이 기뻐할 것입니까 아님 불평할 것입니까?

 

What difficult circumstance is the Lord using to teach you mercy? We modern disciples can also miss the lesson and fail the mercy quiz.  Fix your eyes on the mercy of Jesus.

주님이 어떤 어려운 상황을 이용하여 관용을 가르칠지 모릅니다. 현시대를 살아 가고 있는 우리 제자들도 이 교훈을 잊어버리고 주님의 테스트에 합격하지 못할 수도 있습니다. 그러므로 예수님의 자비에 눈 여겨 보아야 합니다.
