NOW OR NEVER?

"Make the most of the present opportunity, for these are evil days." —Ephesians 5:16

 “시간을 잘 쓰십시오. 지금은 악한 때입니다.” — 마르코 9:2-3

 

Have you ever attended a funeral and wished you had shared your faith with the deceased when you'd had the opportunity? Now that your teenagers no longer listen to you, don't you wish that you would have told them about Jesus when they were younger and more open? Most people's lives are filled with missed opportunities. When days are as evil as ours, we often don't get a second or third chance.

여러분은 가까운 사람의 죽음을 겪으며, 생전에 기회 있을 때 그에게 신앙을 전하지 못했음을 아쉬워한 적이 있습니까? 또 자식이 다 커서 부모의 말을 들으려고 하지 않는 지금에야, 그 아이들이 좀 더 어리고 개방적일 때 예수님 얘기를 많이 해주지 못한 것이 아쉽지 않습니까? 대부분 사람들의 인생은 이처럼 놓쳐버린 기회들로 가득합니다. 지금처럼 악한 때에는, 그러한 기회를 다시 맞기는 쉽지 않습니다.

 

However, the Lord doesn't want us burdened with regrets. He wants us to repent of missed opportunities and give no thought to what lies behind (see Phil 3:13). Then He wants us to "make the most of the present opportunities." "We must do the deeds" of God "while it is day. The night comes on when no one can work" (Jn 9:4). "Give ear, listen humbly, for the Lord speaks. Give glory to the Lord, your God, before it grows dark; before your feet stumble on darkening mountains; before the light you look for turns to darkness, changes into black clouds" (Jer 13:15-16). "Now is the acceptable time! "Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2) Share your faith now. Evangelize now. You may never have another opportunity.

그렇지만 주님께서는 우리가 회한(悔恨)의 짐을 지고 사는 것을 바라지 않으십니다. 지난 일을 회개했으면 뒤에 있는 일은 잊어버리기를 원하십니다 (필리 3:13 참조). 그리하여 “현재 중에서 최상의 기회를 잡기를” 원하십니다. 하느님의 “일을 우리는 낮 동안에 해야 합니다. 이제 밤이 오면 아무도 일하지 못합니다” (요한 9:4). “주님께서 말씀하시니 너희는 들어라. 귀를 기울여라. 우쭐거리지 마라. 주 너희 하느님께서 어둠을 가져오시기 전에, 너희 발이 땅거미 지는 산등성이에서 비틀거리기 전에 그분께 영광을 드려라. 그러지 않으면 너희가 빛을 기다리고 있는데도 그분께서 빛을 어둠으로 바꾸시고 암흑으로 만드시리라” (예레 13:15-16). “지금이 바로 매우 은혜로운 때입니다! 지금이 바로 구원의 날입니다!” (1코린 6:2) 바로 지금 신앙을 전하는 일을 하십시오. 지금 당장 복음전파에 나서십시오. 이런 기회는 다시 오지 않을 지도 모릅니다.

 humbly  겸손하게, 황송하게; 천한 신분으로.

 stumble  ① (실족하여) 넘어지다, 곱드러지다(at; over). ② 마주치다, 우연히 만나다(across; on, upon). ③ 비틀거리다, 비틀거리며 걷다(along). ④ 실수하다, 잘못하다; (도덕상의) 죄를 범하다.

 salvation  ① 구조, 구제; C 구조물, 구제자, 구조 수단. ②  (죄로부터의) 구원, 구세; C 구세주.

 evangelize  복음을 전하다; 기독교에 귀의시키다.
