GLORIFY THY NAME

너의 이름을 영광스럽게 하라

I'm looking at the skyline of downtown Cincinnati. Tall buildings display the name of the parent company in lights: Fifth Third Bank, Great American, Kroger, among others. The company name is publicly <b>exalted</b> by these buildings. These buildings are shiny and attractive, qualities which <b>enhance</b>the company name. These companies wouldn't put their name on a rundown, grimy building for fear of disgracing their name. <br><br>

저는 지금 신시내티 중심 상가의 빌딩숲들이 이루는 장관을 바라보고 있습니다. 높은 빌딩들에는 모(母)회사의 이름을 쓴 간판이 드러나 있습니다. Fifth Third Bank, Great American, Kroger 등이 눈에 뜨입니다. 회사의 이름을 대중들에게 한껏 치켜 올려주는 이 빌딩들은 반짝 반짝하고 눈에 뜨이는 특징을 갖고 있습니다. 이런 특징들이 회사의 이름을 높여 주는 것이지요. 회사들은 때묻은, 시들시들한 빌딩들에 이름을 내걸고 싶어하지 않을 것입니다. 자기들의 이름에 먹칠을 할까 두려우니까요. <br><br>

 

We are Christians. Accordingly, we bear the name of Jesus. We are "an edifice" that displays the name of Jesus to the world (1 Pt 2:5). As His "buildings" (see 1 Cor 3:16), we want to be shiny and attractive for Jesus (Mt 5:14-16). It's absolutely true that Jesus loves us even when we are rundown and grimy (see Lk 15:16, 20). However, as His ambassadors, we want to publicly exalt and glorify Jesus' holy name by our holy, shiny, joyful lives. <br><br>

우리는 그리스도인입니다. 그러므로 우리는 예수님의 이름을 품고 있습니다. 우리는 세상에 예수님의 이름을 드러내는 “(영적인) 집” 입니다. (1베드 2:5) 그 분의 “성전” (1코린 3:16) 인 우리는 예수님을 위해서 밝게 빛나 사람들의 마음을 끌고자 합니다. (마태 5:14-16) 우리가 지치고 보잘것없을 때에도 분명히 예수님께서는 우리를 사랑하십니다. 하지만 그분의 사절인 우리는 거룩하고, 빛이 나는, 기쁨에 찬 삶을 통해 사람들에게 예수님의 거룩한 이름을 높이고 찬미하길 원합니다. <br><br>

 

The world is watching you today as you display the name of Jesus. What will they see today? How is your life glorifying "the name of our Lord Jesus" today? (2 Thes 1:12)

세상은 오늘도 예수님의 이름을 드러내는 우리를 바라보고 있습니다. 오늘 사람들이 보게 되는 것은 무엇일까요? 오늘 여러분의 삶은 어떤 방식으로 “우리 주 예수님의 이름”에 영광을 드리고 있는지요? (2 테살 1:12) <br><br>
