오늘 복음에는 휴식의 중요성과 사람들에 대한 예수님의 지극한 사랑이 담겨 있습니다. 오늘 복음 해설은 짧지만 휴가철을 맞아, 휴식은 선택이 아니고 필수라는 것을 생각케 합니다.

사도들이 예수님께 모여와, 자기들이 한 일과 가르친 것을 다 보고하였다. 그러자 예수님께서 그들에게, “너희는 따로 외딴곳으로 가서 좀 쉬어라.” 하고 말씀하셨다. 오고 가는 사람들이 너무 많아 음식을 먹을 겨를조차 없었던 것이다. 그래서 그들은 따로 배를 타고 외딴곳으로 떠나갔다. 그러자 많은 사람이 그들이 떠나는 것을 보고, 모든 고을에서 나와 육로로 함께 달려가 그들보다 먼저 그곳에 다다랐다. 예수님께서는 배에서 내리시어 많은 군중을 보시고 가엾은 마음이 드셨다. 그들이 목자 없는 양들 같았기 때문이다. 그래서 그들에게 많은 것을 가르쳐 주기 시작하셨다.

Commentary:

 

30-31. We can see here the intensity of Jesus’ public ministry. Such was his dedication to souls that St Mark twice mentions that the disciples did not even have time to eat (cf. Mk 3,20). A Christian should be ready to sacrifice his time and even his rest in the service of the Gospel. This attitude of availability will lead us to change our plans whenever the good of souls so requires.

 

해설

30-31. 여기에서 예수님의 공 생활이 얼마나 강도 높게 진행됐는지를 알 수 있다. 사람들에게 대한 헌신이 성 마르코가 제자들은 밥 먹을 시간조차 없었다고 두 번이나 언급할 정도였다 (마르코 3,20 참조). 그리스도인들은 그들의 시간과 나머지 모두를 복음에 봉사하는데 희생할 준비를 해야겠다. 이렇게 준비된 자세를 가짐으로써 주님께서 필요하다고 하실 때 언제든지 우리의 계획을 바꿀 수 있게 된다.

 

But Jesus also teaches us here to have common sense and not to go to such extremes that we physically cannot cope: “the Lord makes his disciples rest, to show those in charge that people who work or preach cannot do so without breaks” (St Bede, In Marci Evangelium expositio, in loc.). “He who pledges himself to work for Christ should never have a free moment, because to rest is not to do nothing: it is to relax in activities which demand less effort” (B1. J. Escriva, The Waym, 357).

 

그러나 예수님께서는 또한 상식에 맞게 살고, 육체적으로 감당하지 못할 극단적인 정도로 가지 말기를 가르치신다: “주님께서는 제자들을 쉬게 하신다. 책임자들에게 작업을 하거나 설교를 하는 사람들이 휴식 없이는 임무를 수행할 수 없다는 것을 알려 주신다” St Bede, In Marci Evangelium expositio, in loc.). “예수님의 일을 하겠다고 맹세한 사람은 자유시간을 가지면 안 된다. 왜냐하면 쉬는 것이 아무 것도 안 하는 것은 아니기 때문이다: 다만 많은 힘들지 않은 일을 하면서 한 숨 돌리는 것이다” (B1. J. Escriva, The Waym, 357).

 

34. Our Lord had planned a period of rest, for himself and his disciples, from the pressures of the apostolate (Mk 6,31-32). And he has to change his plans because so many people come, eager to hear him speak. Not only is he not annoyed with them: he feels compassion on seeing their spiritual need. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hos 4,6). they need instruction and our Lord wants to meet this need by preaching to them. “Jesus is moved by hunger and sorrow, but what moves him most is ignorance” (B1. J. Escriva, Christ Is Passing By, 109).

 

34. 우리 주님께서는 제자들과 함께 사도직의 과중한 업무에서 벗어나 잠시 쉴 계획이셨다 (마르코 6,31-32). 그러나 많은 사람이 운집하여 그의 말씀을 듣기를 갈망하기 때문에 계획을 바꾸셨다. 화를 내지 않으셨을 뿐 만 아니라 그들이 영적으로 굶주리고 있는 것에 대해 연민을 느끼셨다. “나의 백성은 예지가 없어 망하리라” (호세아 4,6), 그들은 지침이 필요했고, 우리 주님께서는 그들에게 가르침을 주심으로써 그들의 이 필요를 충족시키신다. “예수님께서는 가난과 슬픔에 마음이 약해지시지만, 가장 많이 약해지시는 것은 사람들이 무지할 때이다” (B1. J. Escriva, Christ Is Passing By, 109).
