What's a cross between a sheep, a snake, and a dove? What goes "baa," "hiss," and "coo"? The answer is "a Christian." We are like sheep among wolves, but clever as snakes, yet innocent as doves. We are sheep because we're totally dependent on the Good Shepherd. We are snakes because we have wisdom from on high in the Holy Spirit. We are doves not because we've never sinned but because we've been forgiven and our innocence restored by being washed in Jesus' blood.
양과 뱀 그리고 비둘기를 섞은 그 중간은 무엇입니까? 무엇이 “메에에”하고 “쉬쉭”거리며 “구구” 하고 웁니까? 정답은 바로 “그리스도인” 입니다. 우리는 이리 떼 가운데 양들 같으나 뱀처럼 슬기롭고 비둘기처럼 순박하기도 합니다. 우리가 양인 이유는 착한 목자에게 온전히 의지하기 때문입니다. 우리가 뱀인 이유는 성령이라는 가장 숭고한 존재로부터 오는 슬기로움을 지니고 있기 때문입니다. 우리가 비둘기라 하는 이유는 결코 우리가 죄를 지은 적이 없기 때문이 아니라 바로 예수님의 피로 그 지은 죄가 씻겨져 내려가 죄의 사함을 받아 다시 우리의 무죄를 회복했기 때문입니다.
