“GOD HATES CHURCH”
"I hate, I spurn your feasts, I take no pleasure in your solemnities." —Amos 5:21
“주님은 교회를 싫어하신다”
"나는 너희의 축제들을 싫어한다. 배척한다. 너희의 그 거룩한 집회를 반길 수 없다." —아모 5:21
In today's first eucharistic reading, God says He hates our church services, can't stand our prayers, and thinks our religious music sounds rotten (Am 5:22-23). "Away with your noisy songs! I will not listen to the melodies of your harps" (Am 5:23). And all along we thought God liked these things. Yet in other parts of the Bible He tells us He is pleased with our worship and praise. It's when we're not repentant and just that all this lip service turns God off.
오늘 제 1독서에서 주님은 우리 교회 예식을 싫어하며 우리 기도를 참을 수 없어 하시고 우리의 종교음악은 너무나 시시해서 들어줄 수 없다고 하십니다(아모 5:22-23). “너희의 시끄러운 노래를 내 앞에서 집어치워라. 너희의 수금 소리도 나는 듣지 못하겠다”(아모 5:23). 처음부터 줄곧 우리는 하느님이 이러한 일을 좋아하신다고 생각했습니다. 그러나 성서의 어느 곳에서는 주님은 우리의 경배와 찬미를 즐겨 하신다고 하였습니다. 우리가 회개도 하지 않고 말로만 섬길 때 주님은 우리와 멀어질 것입니다.
The Lord declares: "If you would offer Me holocausts, then let justice surge like water, and goodness like an unfailing stream" (Am 5:23-24). Beautiful singing is just beautiful lying, if we're not living the words. Prayers are "phony" when we're unrepentant. Our fancy churches testify against us in a world where so many are unjustly deprived of the basic needs of life. We claim God is with us, but the real question is: "Are we with God?"
주님은 “다만 공정을 물처럼 흐르게 하고 정의를 강물처럼 흐르게 하여라.”(아모 5:23-24)라고 말씀하십니다. 말씀으로 살지 않는다면 아름다운 노래는 단지 아름다운 거짓말에 지나지 않습니다. 그리고 뉘우침 없는 기도는 진실한 기도가 아닙니다. 많은 사람들이 삶에 가장 필요한 것들조차 누리지 못하고 있는 이 세상에서 우리 그럴 듯한 교회는 어떠한 일을 하고 있습니까? 우리는 하느님이 우리와 함께 계시기를 요구하지만 정녕 “우리는 하느님과 함께 있습니까?”
"Seek good and not evil, that you may live; then truly will the Lord, the God of hosts, be with you as you claim!" (Am 5:14) "Hate evil and love good, and let justice prevail at the gate; then it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will have pity" (Am 5:15). Lord, have mercy on the church-goers.
“너희는 악이 아니라 선을 찾아라. 그래야 살리라. 그래야 너희 말대로 주 만군의 하느님이 너희와 함께 있으리라!”(아모 5:14) “너희는 악을 미워하고 선을 사랑하며 성문에서 공정을 세워라. 어쩌면 주 만군의 하느님이 요셉의 남은 자들에게 자비를 베풀지도 모른다”(아모 5:15). 주님, 교회에 다니는 사람들에게 자비를 베푸소서.
