새 생명
"가거라. 성전에 서서 이 생명의 말씀을 모두 백성에게 전하여라." —사도 5,20
Alleluia! Jesus has risen from the dead! He's alive! We're just ten days into the glorious fifty-day Easter season and already we should be experiencing new life in the risen Jesus. When we meet Jesus risen from the dead, everything changes. Why be afraid when death has been put to death and the tomb is empty? "Death is swallowed up in victory." "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" (1 Cor 15:54-55) Why be trapped in sin when the stone is rolled away? We are "free at last, Lord God almighty, free at last."
알렐루야! 예수님이 부활했습니다. 주님이 살아났습니다. 영광스러운 50일간의 부활시기중 이제 열흘이 지났습니다. 우리는 부활하신 예수님 안에서 새로운 삶을 경험하고 있습니다. 죽은 사람가운데서 살아나신 예수님을 만나면 모든 것이 바뀝니다. ‘죽음’이 처형당했고 무덤은 비어있는데 왜 두려워합니까? “승리가 죽음을 삼켜 버렸다. 죽음아, 너의 승리가 어디 있느냐? 죽음아, 너의 독침이 어디 있느냐?”(1 코린 15,54-55). 무덤을 막던 돌이 굴러 나왔는데 왜 죄악에 갇혀있습니까? 우리는 “마침내 해방된 것입니다. 전능하신 주님, 우리는 죄악에서 마침내 벗어난 것입니다.”
We are not only freed from fear and sin but also freed for worship and evangelization. When we believe Jesus is risen from the dead, how can we help but praise Him and tell the world about Him? "They were to be found in the temple constantly, speaking the praises of God" (Lk 24:53). "Surely we cannot help speaking of what we have heard and seen" (Acts 4:20).
우리는 두려움과 죄악에서 벗어나 이제 자유롭게 찬미와 선교를 할 수 있습니다. 우리가 죽음에서 일어나신 예수를 믿는다면 주님을 찬양하고 세상에 주님을 알려야 합니다. “그들은 줄곧 성전에서 하느님을 찬미하며 지냈습니다”(루카 24,53). “우리로서는 보고 들은 것을 말하지 않을 수 없습니다”(사도 4,20).
Because we personally know the risen Savior, we have been set free from the prison of our old life with all its sins and fears. We are free to "preach to the people all about this new life" (Acts 5:20). In the next forty days, the risen Lord wants to make you a new person with a new life. "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old order has passed away; now all is new!" (2 Cor 5:17) "The One Who sat on the throne said to me, 'See, I make all things new!' " (Rv 21:5)
우리는 개인적으로 부활하신 구세주를 알고 있기 때문에 죄악과 두려움으로 가득찬 옛 삶의 감옥에서 벗어나게 되었습니다. 우리는 자유롭게 “이 생명의 말씀을 모두 백성에게 전할 수” 있습니다(사도 5,20). 이제 남은 40여일 동안, 부활하신 예수님은 여러분이 새 생명을 갖는 새 사람으로 다시 나길 바랍니다. “그래서 누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 그는 새로운 피조물입니다. 옛 것은 지나갔습니다. 보십시오, 새것이 되었습니다”(2 코린 5,17). “어좌에 앉아 계신 분께서 말씀하셨습니다. ‘보라, 내가 모든 것을 새롭게 만든다’ ”(묵시 21,5).

not only... but also ~ : ... 뿐만 아니라, ~ 도. .. 는 물론 ~ 도. not only ... but ~ as well 과 같이 표현하기도 하고, 단순하게 not only ... but 로 간략하게 쓰기도 합니다.
how can we help but praise; = we cannot help but praise... = we cannot help praising... 부정의 뜻을 '긍정 의문문'으로 표현함. (cannot help but + 동사원형 = cannot help 동명사) (주의) cannot help but 같은 표현은 관용으로 굳어져서 허용되고 있지만, 어법에는 안 맞는 표현. 원문에서도 '성경'은 cannot help ~ ing 를 쓰고 있는 데 비해, informal 한 구어체에서는 help but 을 쓰고 있는 점을 알 수 있습니다. 어쨌든, 가능하면 cannot help ~ ing 를 쓰는 것이 좋습니다. 이 때 help 는 '돕다'라는 뜻과는 전혀 무관한 avoid (피하다), prevent (못하게 하다) 라는 뜻. 이 뜻으로 help 가 쓰이는 예: Baek, Moo-Hyun, the caricaturist(만평가) of a Seoul vernacular(자국어의) paper, said nothing if only he could help it. 서울의 한 신문사에 소속된 만평가 백무현씨는 피할 수만 있다면 아무 말도 하지 않았다.
