The day after the disciples discovered that Jesus had risen from the dead must have been a day of celebration but also a day of wondering and pondering what really had happened. We can imagine them being excited and hopeful but also turning to the writings of the prophets to try to make sense of what had happened the past few days.
Today's first reading shows us the fruit of their pondering and studying. We see Peter standing before a crowd on Pentecost, quoting from Psalm 16: "I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken"(Acts 2:25). Clearly, there was a change in Peter during the fifty days between Easter and Pentecost. He was changed from the fearful, cowardly man who denied even knowing Jesus to a powerful apostle who believed with confidence that Jesus is the promised Messiah and has freed God's children from sin and death.
On this day after Easter, we too can have hope and confidence! Jesus is risen in glory. He has opened the gate of heaven for all of us. How can we have this confidence? It will come as we, like the early disciples, ponder and study God's word. We have been made right with God because Jesus has won our redemption. Yes, many things happen in our lives that threaten to undermine our confidence and peace, but the fact that we have been reunited with our heavenly Father the fact that we now have the hope of eternal lifecan overshadow anything that this world can throw at us.
When he rose from the tomb, Jesus broke the power of death, giving all of us the hope of resurrection. His death is our death to sin. His resurrection is our rising to new life. Today, and every day during this Easter season, we can greet each other with the ancient greeting: "He is Risen. Yes, he is truly risen!"

예수님께서 죽음에서 부활하신 것을 제자들이 발견한 그 다음 날은 축제의 날이었을 게 분명하지만, 한편으로는 정말로 무슨 일이 벌어진 건지 궁금해하면서 곰곰이 생각해 보는 날이었을 것입니다. 우리는 제자들이 잔뜩 고무되고 희망에 차 있는 모습과 동시에, 지난 며칠 사이에 일어난 일들을 이해하기 위해 예언자들이 쓴 글들을 뒤적이는 모습도 상상할 수 있습니다.
오늘의 제1독서는 제자들이 그렇게 숙고하면서 탐구한 결과를 보여 줍니다. 우리는 성령강림절에 사도 베드로가 군중들 앞에 서서 시편 16절을 인용하고 있는 모습을 봅니다. “나 언제나 주님을 내 앞에 모시어 그분께서 내 오른쪽에 계시니 나는 흔들리지 않는다.”(사도 2,25) 부활절에서 성령 강림절에 이르는 50일 동안 베드로에게 크나큰 변화가 일어난 게 분명합니다. 그는 예수님을 모른다고 할 정도로 비겁한 겁쟁이에서, 예수님께서는 약속된 메시아이며 하느님의 자녀들을 죄와 죽음에서 구원하신 구세주이심을 확고하게 믿는 열정적인 사도로 바뀌었으니까요.
부활 이튿날인 오늘, 우리도 희망과 신뢰를 가집시다! 예수님께서 영광 안에 부활하셨고, 우리 모두에게 하늘의 문을 활짝 열어 주셨으니까요. 그걸 어떻게 확신할 수 있느냐고요? 초기 제자들처럼 하느님의 말씀을 곰곰이 생각하고 탐구하면 됩니다. 예수님께서 우리에게 구원의 승리를 얻어주셨기에 우리는 하느님과 올바른 관계에 놓이게 되었습니다. 그렇습니다. 우리의 신뢰를 무너뜨리고 평화를 깨뜨리려 위협하는 일들이 우리네 삶에는 수없이 일어나고 있습니다. 그러나 우리는 하느님 아버지와 결합되어 있기에, 즉 이제는 영원한 생명에 대한 희망을 가지게 되었기에 우리에게 덮치는 현세의 모든 위험에서 안전하게 보호받을 것입니다.
예수님께서는 무덤에서 부활하심으로써 죽음의 세력을 쳐부수고 우리에게 부활의 희망을 안겨 주셨습니다. 그분의 죽음이 곧 우리가 죄에 죽음이요, 그분의 부활이 곧 우리가 새로운 생명으로 소생하는 부활입니다. 오늘부터 부활 시기 동안 날마다 예로부터 전해온 방식으로 부활 인사를 주고받읍시다. “주님께서 부활하셨습니다. 그렇습니다, 참으로 부활하셨습니다!”

기쁘기 그지없습니다. 예수님께서 항상
저와 함께 계시며,
기쁨과 희망과 평화를 가져다 주심에
