Heavenly Father, your love and mercy know no bounds. You love us so much that you sent your only Son to die for us, so that we could grow into your image. But so often we stumble and fall short of your glory. We hunger for the fleeting things of this world, rather than seeking after the eternal riches of your kingdom. We have forgotten your most important command: to love you with all our heart, mind, and soul, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
But you, Lord, are compassionate and forgiving, and the number of times we fall is the number of times you pick us up. "Do not remember against us the iniquities of our ancestors; let your compassion come speedily to meet us"(Psalm 79:8).
Lord, you are faithful in every way. You have spoken first through the prophets, and then through your Son, Jesus. We listen, yet sometimes fail to respond. We tend to hear you when it's convenient, but ignore you when it's not. But you have said that when your word goes out, it does not return void but will accomplish what you desire (Isaiah 55:11). Help us to receive your word in our hearts, and to respond in a way that is pleasing to you! "help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name's sake" (Psalm 79:9).
Great and mighty God, you created us in your image as the crown of your creation. But we have not always modeled ourselves after you. We have all turned toward idols and made idols of ourselves. We have misused our minds, our bodies, and the gift of our sexuality. We have rejected your freedom, and become prisoners of our own selfishness. Like sheep without a shepherd, we have all gone astray. But in your love, you pardon our offences and gently call us back. Help us to hear your voice and follow after you. "When we your people, the flock of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise"(Psalm 79:13).

according to our sins,
but according to the great measure
of your mercy and forgiveness.
Father, I trust in your love!"

거룩하신 아버지, 아버지의 사랑과 자비는 끝이 없습니다. 아버지께서는 저희를 참으로 사랑하시어 당신 외아드님을 저희를 위해 죽도록 보내셨으니, 그로써 저희가 아버지의 모습으로 자라날 수 있게 되었습니다. 그런데도 저희는 그토록 자주 휘청거리고 아버지의 영광에 어긋나는 생활을 하고 있습니다. 아버지 나라의 영원한 부를 찾기보다는 덧없이 지나가는 세상사에 집착합니다. 저희는 주님께서 주신 가장 큰 계명, 즉 온 마음과 생각과 목숨을 다하여 주 하느님을 사랑하고 이웃을 자기 자신처럼 사랑하라는 말씀을 잊은 채 살아가고 있습니다.
그러나 주님, 주님께서는 저희를 가엾이 여기시어 용서해 주시고, 아무리 넘어져도 그때마다 저희를 일으켜 주십니다. “선조들의 죄를 저희에게 돌리지 마소서. 당신 자비가 어서 저희에게 미치게 하소서.”(시편 79,8)
주님, 주님께서는 모든 일에 진실하십니다. 주님께서는 먼저 예언자들을 통해 말씀하시고, 다음에는 당신 아드님이신 예수님을 통해 저희에게 말씀하셨지요. 저희는 주님의 말씀을 들으면서도, 때로 그 말씀에 응답하지 못하곤 합니다. 이로울 때는 주님 말씀에 귀 기울이다가 그렇지 않을 때에는 외면하기 일쑤이니까요. 그러나 주님의 입에서 나가는 말은 헛되이 돌아오지 않고 반드시 주님께서 뜻하는 바를 이루며 주님께서 내린 사명을 완수하고야 만다고(이사 55,11) 주님께서는 말씀하셨습니다. 저희가 주님의 말씀을 온 마음으로 받아들이고, 주님 마음에 드는 방식으로 응답을 하도록 도와주십시오! “당신 이름의 영광을 위하여 저희를 도우소서. 저희 구원의 하느님, 당신 이름을 위하여 저희를 구하시고 저희 잘못을 용서하소서.”(시편 79,9)
위대하시고 전능하신 하느님, 당신께서는 저희를 당신 모습으로 지으시어 창조의 월계관으로 삼으셨습니다. 그런데도 저희는 언제고 주님을 본보기로 삼지는 못했습니다.  저희는 우상들에게 마음을 주고, 저희 자신을 우상으로 삼았습니다. 저희는 저희 몸과 마음, 그리고 선물로 주신 성을 남용하였습니다. 저희는 주님의 자유를 마다하고 저희 자신의 이기심의 포로가 되었습니다. 저희는 모두 목자 잃은 양처럼 길을 잃었지요. 그러나 주님께서는 사랑으로 저희 잘못을 용서하시고, 부드러운 목소리로 다시 부르십니다. 저희가 주님의 목소리를 듣고 주님의 뒤를 따르도록 도와주십시오. “저희는 당신의 백성, 당신 목장의 양 떼, 저희는 끝없이 당신을 찬송하고 대대로 당신에 대한 찬양을 전하오리다.”(시편 79,13)

주님의 무한하신 자비와 용서로 대해
주십시오. 아버지,
