Reflection

     The Apostles were not always certain that Jesus was who He claimed to be. They often needed reassurance, both before and after the Resurrection, that He was truly the Lord. Peter wants to walk on water, Thomas wants to touch Him, the Apostles ask a lot of questions and want to see Him eat. But in their hearts, they know Him and in the breaking of bread they recognize Him.

     Recognizing Jesus and responding to Him is part of the practice of faith. What do we need to see? He is present in our world, leading us and guiding us to act in His name. We see Him in many ways: in the needs of others; in the call to service; through our prayer and worship; in word and sacrament. Through the eyes of faith and in the depths of our heart, we know He is near.
