June 4 & 5, 2005 - 10th Sunday of Ordinary Time

 

Reflection

     Matthew had no idea that his life would change so dramatically when he awoke on the day that Jesus approached him at his post where he collected taxes. In those few short moments, Matthew knew that life would be different. He accepted the invitation to follow Jesus and never looked back. He was called by the Lord to spread the Gospel and when Matthew said yes, his life took on a new purpose and meaning. He had not found grace; grace found him.

     We do not have to be perfect to respond to the Lord. He calls us and takes us as we are. Our  purpose and mission is found in our willingness to follow Him, and to do our part in completing the mission of the Gospel. In both ordinary moments and the unexpected, God calls us to a deeper faith, a
greater love and a vibrant hope. Like Matthew, we never know what day the Lord will call us to greatness, changing our lives forever, if only we say yes. Perhaps that day is today.
