"Do not accept the grace of God in vain.…Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!"(2 Corinthians 6:1,2)
Today begins a grace-filled "acceptable time" from the Lord. Starting today, and throughout the season of Lent, God is inviting us to take a few steps toward him, so that he can take giant leaps toward us. So just for a moment, try to set aside your plans for Lent and ponder instead the grace that God wants to pour out this season. Think about the generosity that flows from the one who allowed his perfect, holy Son to become sin for us so that we could be freed from sin (2 Corinthians 5:21).
From the moment he created us, God wanted nothing more than to open the gates of heaven for us. He wanted his love to fall from heaven like a rain shower upon thirsty ground. But our hearts became hardened and closed by sin. So Jesus took our nature upon himself and brought it with him to the cross. Not only did he atone for our individual sins, he put to death our own self-centered nature (Romans 6:6).
God wants to bring freedom into every part of our lives this Lent. He wants his grace to surround us and penetrate us, to warm our hearts and transform our minds. He knows our needs. He knows our weaknesses. He knows our desiresboth good and bad and he will hold nothing good from us as we turn to him in prayer. When we admit our weakness and frailty when we pray, "Lord, I need your grace! I need you! " He will heal us and change us.
Brothers and sisters, now is the acceptable time. God knows which sins we find most difficult to overcome, and he has all the grace we need to turn away from them. But even more important, he has the grace to soften our hearts and teach us to live in his love.

“하느님의 은총을 헛되이 받는 일이 없게 하십시오. … 지금이 바로 매우 은혜로운 때입니다. 지금이 바로 구원의 날입니다!”(2코린 6,1-2)
오늘 주님의 은총 가득한 “매우 은혜로운 때”가 시작됩니다. 하느님께서는 오늘부터 사순 시기 내내 그분을 향해 작게라도 몇 발자국 내딛으라고 우리를 초대하십니다. 그래야 그분께서 우리한테 큰 걸음으로 다가올 수 있으니까요. 그러니 당신이 세운 사순 시기 계획은 잠시 제쳐두고 하느님께서 이 시기에 당신에게 부어주고 싶어하시는 은총에 관해 생각해 봅시다. 완전하며 거룩하신 그리스도를 우리를 위하여 죄로 만드시어, 우리가 죄에서 벗어날 수 있도록 하신 분에게서 흘러나오는 너그러운 사랑을 생각해 보세요.(2코린 5,21)
하느님께서는 우리를 지으신 그 순간부터 우리에게 천국 문을 열어 주시고, 메마른 땅을 적시는 소나기처럼 당신 사랑을 하늘에서 내려 주고자 하셨습니다. 그러나 우리의 마음은 죄로 인해 완고하게 굳어지고 닫혀 버렸지요. 그래서 예수님께서 우리의 본성을 취하시어 이를 십자가로 가지고 가셨습니다. 예수님께서는 우리 죄를 용서하셨을 뿐 아니라 이기적인 우리의 본성을 멸하셨습니다.(로마 6,6)
하느님께서는 이 사순 시기에 우리 삶 구석구석에 자유를 선사하고 싶어하십니다. 그분께서는 당신의 은총이 우리를 감싸고 우리 안에 스며들어, 우리 마음을 따뜻하게 하고 우리 정신을 변화시키기를 바라십니다. 그분은 우리에게 필요한 것도 알고 계시고, 우리의 약점도 알고 계십니다. 좋은 것이든 나쁜 것이든 우리의 갈망들도 모두 알고 계시는 그분께서, 기도하며 당신께 의지하는 우리에게 좋은 것을 주시지 않을 리 없습니다. 우리가 자신의 결점과 나약함을 인정하고 “주님, 제게는 주님의 은총이 필요합니다! 주님이 계셔야 합니다!” 하며 기도드린다면, 그분께서는 우리를 치유하고 변화시켜 주실 것입니다.
형제자매 여러분, 지금은 매우 은혜로운 때입니다. 하느님께서는 가장 극복하기 힘든 죄가 무엇인지 잘 알고 계시고, 그 죄를 끊어버리는 데 필요한 비책도 갖고 계십니다. 더 중요한 건, 그분께서는 우리 마음을 부드럽게 하고 당신 사랑 안에 살게 하는 은총을 갖고 계신다는 것입니다.
“아버지, 당신의 은혜는 참으로 놀랍습니다.
주님께서는 저에게 거듭거듭
자비를 보여 주셨지요.
이 사순 시기 동안에도 저를 도우시어
두 팔을 벌리고 저에게 달려오시는 주님을
뵈옵게 해 주십시오.” |
