THE SACRAMENT OF HUMILITY

겸손의 성사(聖事)
“이는 너희를 위한 내 몸이다.” —1코린 11:24
Jesus "humbled Himself" (Phil 2:8). He emptied Himself of the glory He shared with the Father in heaven (Jn 17:5). He stooped down to caress and wash the sandaled, road-dusty feet of those who would shortly abandon, betray, and deny Him (Jn 13:5). He set aside His glory and took on the appearance of bread and wine to become one body with us. In His eucharistic body, given for us (1 Cor 11:24), He humbly became one with us who have participated in crucifying Him through our sins (Catechism, 598). He became even more humble by greatly and gladly desiring to do all these things (Lk 22:15) for us, His beloved.
예수님께서는 “당신 자신을 낮추셨습니다” (필리2:8). 하늘에 계신 아버지와 함께 누리던 영광도 (요한 17:5) 완전히 버리셨습니다. 얼마 후엔 스승을 버리고, 배신하고, 부인하게 될 사람들의 샌들 신어 흙먼지 묻은 발을 쓰다듬어 씻어주기 위해 몸을 굽히셨습니다 (요한 13:5). 또한 당신의 영광을 버리고, 형체있는 몸으로서 우리와 함께 계시기 위하여 빵과 포도주의 형상을 취하셨습니다. 예수님께서는 우리에게 떼어주신 성체 안에서 (1코린 11:24), 우리의 죄를 통해 당신을 십자가에 못박은 우리와 겸손되이 하나 되셨습니다 (가톨릭교회교리서 598항). 그 무엇보다도 사랑하시는 우리를 위해 이 모든 일들을 간절하고도 기쁘게 바라시며 (루카 22:15) 자신을 철저하게 낮추신 것입니다.
Jesus said: "What I just did was to give you an example: as I have done, so you must do" (Jn 13:15). This is impossible for us in our proud humanity. So Jesus gives us Himself in the Eucharist in the humble form of bread and wine. He commands us: "Take this and eat it...this is My body" (Mt 26:26). When we "eat this bread and drink this cup" (1 Cor 11:26), we "carry about in our bodies the dying" and the humility and the love of Jesus (2 Cor 4:10). We die to ourselves and let Him live in us (Gal 2:19-20). Jesus lives in us and we in Him (Jn 6:56; 17:23).
예수님께서는 “내가 너희에게 한 것처럼 너희도 하라고, 내가 본을 보여 준 것이다” (요한 13:15) 하셨습니다. 이것은 자존심을 가진 인간의 속성으로는 불가능한 것입니다. 그래서 예수님은 겸손한 빵과 포도주의 형상으로 성체를 통해 당신을 우리에게 내주시며, “받아 먹어라. 이는 내 몸이다” (마태 26:26) 하고 명하십니다. 우리는 “이 빵을 먹고 이 잔을 마실 적마다” (1코린 11:26) “예수님의 죽음과 겸손과 사랑을 몸에 짊어지고 다닙니다” (2코린 4:10). 우리 자신을 버리고 예수님이 우리 안에 사시도록 하면 (갈라 2:19-20) 예수님께서는 우리 안에 머무르시고 우리도 예수님 안에 머무릅니다 (요한 6:56; 17:23).
When you receive Jesus' eucharistic body and blood at Mass today, receive His humility. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord (1 Pt 5:6), and receive the total humility of the greatest Lover.
오늘 미사에서 여러분이 예수님의 성체와 성혈을 모실 때, 그분의 겸손도 모십시오. 하느님의 강한 손 아래에서 자신을 낮춤으로써 (1베드 5:6), 완전한 사랑에서 오는 완벽한 겸손도 함께 받으십시오.
