A PICTURE:WORTH MORE THAN A THOUSAND WORDS
"The Lord said to Moses, 'Go down at once to your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt, for they have become depraved.' " —Exodus 32:7
천 마디 말보다 더 값진 그림
“그 무렵 주님께서 모세에게 이르셨다. ‘어서 가거라. 네가 이집트 땅에서 데리고 올라온 너의 백성이 타락하였다.’ ” —마르코 9:45
What if a good friend who was an artist drew your picture, and it looked like a pig? If your artist friend explained that you and the pig looked the same, you would feel bad. You could say what Jesus replied to Philip: "After I have been with you all this time, you still do not know Me?" (Jn 14:9) Your so-called friend did not even know you were a human being, much less know you personally.
만일 화가였던 친한 친구가 돼지처럼 그린 초상화를 주면서 당신이 돼지처럼 생겨서 그렇게 그렸다고 하면 당신은 참 섭섭할 것입니다. 예수님께서 “내가 이토록 오랫동안 너희와 함께 지냈는데도, 너는 나를 모른다는 말이냐? ” (요한 14:9) 하고 필립보에게 하신 말씀이 떠오를 것입니다. 명색이 친구라면서 사람 취급도 하지 않는데, 하물며 인격적인 앎이 될 리가 없죠.
This is what the chosen people did to the heavenly Father, "making for themselves a molten calf and worshiping it, sacrificing to it and crying out, 'This is your God, O Israel, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt!' " (Ex 32:8) We still do this today, even after the Father's revelation of Himself through Jesus in the Spirit. Most of us know the traditional, Biblical teaching that God is personal, but our experience of this may be B.C. rather than A.D.
이것이 선택된 백성이라는 사람들이”자기들을 위하여 수송아지 상을 부어 만들어 놓고서는, 그것에 절하고 제사 지내며, ‘ 이스라엘아, 이분이 너를 이집트 땅에서 데리고 올라오신 너의 신이시다.’ ” (탈출 32:8) 하며 하느님 아버지께 했던 작태입니다. 또한 오늘날, 성령 안에서 예수를 통해 당신을 드러내신 하느님의 계시를 보고서도, 우리가 그러고 있습니다. 우리는 대부분 전승이나 성경의 가르침을 통해, 기원 후가 아니라 이미 구약시대부터, 하느님은 인격적인 분임을 경험해 알고 있습니다.
Jesus said, "His voice you have never heard, His form you have never seen, neither do you have His word abiding in your hearts because you do not believe the One He has sent" (Jn 5:37-38). Our carnality, lukewarmness, and sinfulness have deprived us of experiencing the tender loving care of Abba, the "passioned" love of Jesus, and the gentle yet powerful movement of the Spirit. We must repent so as to fall in love with the personal God Who is Love (1 Jn 4:16). This Lent and life, take God personally.
예수님께서는 “너희는 그분의 목소리를 들은 적이 한 번도 없고 그분의 모습을 본 적도 없다. 너희는 또 그분의 말씀이 너희 안에 머무르게 하지 않는다. 그분께서 보내신 이를 너희가 믿지 않기 때문이다” (요한 5:37-38) 하고 나무라십니다. 우리의 육욕, 미온(微溫), 그리고 죄성은 압빠, 아버지의 자애로운 보살핌, 예수님의 “열정적” 사랑, 그리고 성령의 온화하면서도 강한 활동에 대한 기억을 잊게 만들었습니다. 우리는 사랑이신 하느님과 (1요한 4:16) 친밀한 사랑에 빠지려면 반드시 회개해야만 합니다. 이번 사순절, 그리고 앞으로 사는 동안, 하느님을 일대 일로 만납시다.
