EASTER IS ONLY FOR THE DEAD

부활의 영광은 죽음으로부터

“자기 목숨을 사랑하는 사람은 목숨을 잃을 것이고, 이 세상에서 자기 목숨을 미워하는 사람은 영원한 생명에 이르도록 목숨을 간직할 것이다.” —요한 12:25

 

 

There are two more weeks until Easter. We are on the threshold of one of the most significant moments of our lives. Do we expect to meet the risen Christ this Easter? The risen, glorified Jesus is about to come to us in a special way. Easter is nothing less and can be nothing more. However, to experience the resurrection, we must be willing to die. Only the dead can come to life.

부활절을 2 주 남긴 지금 우리는 인생에 있어 매우 중요한 순간에 와 있습니다. 이번 부활절에는 우리가 진정 부활하신 그리스도를 뵈올 수 있을까요?  영광의 부활 예수님께서는 특별한 방식으로 우리에게 오십니다. 부활절에 커다란 의미를 두지 않고 보낼 수도 있겠지만, 우리가 부활의 길을 가려면, 먼저 죽을 자세가 되어있어야 합니다. 죽음으로부터 만이 생명이 나오니까요.

 

"I solemnly assure you, unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it produces much fruit" (Jn 12:24). We must accept the deaths of  repentance, sacrifice, obedience, suffering, and persecution, or we do not have the prerequisites for resurrection. "Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed. While we live we are constantly being delivered to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal flesh" (2 Cor 4:10-11).

 “내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 밀알 하나가 땅에 떨어져 죽지 않으면 한 알 그대로 남고, 죽으면 많은 열매를 맺는다” (요한 12:24). 우리가 회개, 희생, 순종, 수난, 그리고 박해를 통한 죽음을 받아들이지 않는다면, 부활의 요건을 갖추지 못하는 것입니다. “우리는 언제나 예수님의 죽음을 몸에 짊어지고 다닙니다. 우리 몸에서 예수님의 생명도 드러나게 하려는 것입니다. 우리는 살아 있으면서도 늘 예수님 때문에 죽음에 넘겨집니다. 우리의 죽을 육신에서 예수님의 생명도 드러나게 하려는 것입니다” (코린 4:10-11).

 

The old song says: "Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die." We might  paraphrase it: "Everybody wants the resurrection without the crucifixion, the glory without the cross, Easter without Lent."

옛 노랫말 “누구나 천국을 원한다네, 그러나 아무도 죽음은 원하지 않지.”를 이렇게 바꿔쓸 수 있겠습니다. “사람들은 십자가에 못 박히지 않는 부활만을 원하고, 십자가 없는 영광만을 원하고, 사순절의 희생 없는 부활절만을 원하는구료!”
