Today is a day of great celebration. Christ Jesus, victorious over every enemy, has ascended to heaven and taken his seat at his Father's right hand! He returns to the Father, taking with him as "captives" hearts that have been captivated by his salvation (Ephesians 4:8). All power and authority in heaven and earth now belong to him.
Can you imagine the joy of the Seraphim, the Cherubim, and whole heavenly court as they welcome Jesus home? Can you picture all of them bowing low, acknowledging him as their valiant king of Glory?
Jesus, the man of sorrows acquainted with such grief; Jesus, beaten, scourged, and put to death; Jesus, mocked as a false prophet, ridiculed as a fake king, taunted as a powerless priest, has been vindicated! And now that he is enthroned, he seeks to share his victory with everyone who will embrace him. He has brought with him into glory that same human nature that was humbled to death. And in doing so, he has raised up all of human nature and made it capable of intimate and eternal communion with God.
How should we honor this day? By lifting up our hearts and minds to heaven. By proclaiming that the gates of heaven are open and that we can confidently approach the throne of God to receive all the grace we need. Jesus may have gone to heaven, but he will never stop caring about all of us, the friends of his who are still on the earth. He is constantly pouring his love upon us and giving us abundant gifts that will help us build up his church.
St. Augustine once said: "Our Lord ascends to heaven, let our hearts ascend with him." And Scripture offers us the same advice: "If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth"(Colossians 3:1-2).
So on this great and glorious day, let the Lord lift you up and bring you into his throne room. Let your voice join with the heavenly court in all the praise, worship, and adoration that will go on for all eternity!

and Lord of lords.
We love you and we adore you."

오늘은 몹시도 기쁜 축일입니다. 예수 그리스도께서는 모든 원수를 이기고 하늘로 오르시어 하느님 아버지의 오른편에 앉으셨습니다! 그분께서는 구원으로써 ‘포로들’을 사로잡으시어 그 마음을 가지고 아버지께로 돌아가십니다.(에페 4,8) 하늘과 땅의 모든 권능과 위엄이 이제 그분께 속합니다.
세라핌과 케루빔을 비롯한 하늘의 왕국 전체가 예수님을 맞아들이면서 기뻐하는 모습을 상상할 수 있나요? 그들 모두가 허리 굽혀 절하면서 그분을 자신들의 용감한 임금, 영광의 왕으로 맞아들이는 모습을 그려볼 수 있나요?
깊은 슬픔에 익숙한 비탄의 인간 예수님, 매 맞고 채찍질 당한 후 사형에 처해지신 예수님, 거짓 예언자라고 조롱당하고 가짜 임금이라고 놀림 받으며 무력한 사제라고 비웃음을 산 예수님께서 그 모든 혐의를 벗으셨습니다! 그리고 왕좌에 오르시어, 그분을 받아들이는 모든 이들과 함께 당신의 승리를 나누고자 하십니다. 예수님께서는 죽음에 이를 만큼 낮추어진 바로 그 인간의 본성을 영광되게 만드셨습니다. 그리고 그렇게 함으로써 모든 인간적 본성을 들어 올리시어 하느님과 친밀하고 영원한 친교를 가능하게 만드셨습니다.
우리는 오늘 이 축일을 어떻게 기념해야 할까요? 우리의 마음과 정신을 하늘로 들어 올리면 됩니다. 하늘의 문이 열려, 우리가 하느님의 어좌로 당당히 나아가 우리에게 필요한 모든 은총을 받을 수 있게 되었다는 것을 선포하면 됩니다. 예수님께서는 하늘 나라로 올라가셨을지 몰라도, 당신의 친구들인 우리들, 아직 이 땅에 있는 우리 모두를 돌보시는 일을 결코 그만두지 않으실 것입니다. 그분은 변함없이 당신 사랑을 우리에게 쏟아부어 주시며, 풍성한 은총을 내려 당신 교회를 건설할 수 있게 도와주실 것입니다. 
아우구스티노 성인은 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “우리 주님께서는 하늘 나라로 올라가셨습니다. 우리의 마음도 그분과 함께 올라가게 합시다.” 또한 성경도 우리에게 그와 똑같은 조언을 해 줍니다. “그러므로 여러분은 그리스도와 함께 다시 살아났으니, 저 위에 있는 것을 추구하십시오. 거기에는 그리스도께서 하느님의 오른쪽에 앉아 계십니다. 위에 있는 것을 생각하고 땅에 있는 것은 생각하지 마십시오.”(콜로 3,1-2)
그러니 위대하고 영광스러운 이날에 주님께서 당신을 들어올려 그분의 왕실로 데리고 들어가게 해 드리세요. 하늘 궁전에서 영원무궁토록 울려 퍼질 찬미와 찬양, 경배의 합창을 당신도 소리 높여 부르도록 하세요!

당신은 이제 만왕의 왕, 만군의 주님이시니,
우리는 당신을 경애하며 흠숭합니다.”
