"Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them."(John 6:56)
Think of it! Jesus lives in us, and we in him. Not only do we belong to Christ; being nourished by his body and blood incorporates us in a mysterious way into his very life. It makes us part of his body here on earth. Whether we receive Jesus in a small country church or an urban cathedral, a nation wealthy and prosperous or suffering and poor, whether the church seems vibrant or struggling, we are all members of his body, and he calls us his own.
Listen to how Jesus addressed Saul: "Why do you persecute me?"(Acts 9:4). That's how closely Jesus identifies himself with us, his church. We're not just his followers but also an extension of his own person. Whoever touches us, touches Jesus. Let's not forget this truth when we suffer for our faith. Our suffering is not unseen. Jesus will be with us and strengthen us whenever we face persecution for our faith.
Because we are an extension of Christ's person, he wants to act through us and to speak through us. When Jesus wanted to bring Saul to conversion and healing, he spoke to Ananias, who went as his ambassador to lay hands on Saul and heal him. In a similar way, we too are Jesus' hands and feet in the world today. He may send us to bring his word to someone lost or alone; he may send us to bring his healing and reconciliation to someone suffering from a broken heart; he may send us to give a word of encouragement to someone who doesn't trust in God's love.
So receive the Eucharist with great faith. Take every opportunity to abide in Jesus and let him abide in us! You are part of the body of Christ in the world today; let Jesus show you what this means as you receive him into yourself. Let him nourish you so that you can go out in his power to bring his presence into your corner of the world.

“내 살을 먹고 내 피를 마시는 사람은 내 안에 머무르고, 나도 그 사람 안에 머무른다.”(요한 6,56)
생각해 보세요, 예수님께서 우리 안에 사시고 우리는 그분 안에 산다는 것을요! 우리는 그리스도께 그냥 속하기만 하는 것이 아닙니다. 그분의 살과 피로 양육됨으로써, 신비스런 방법으로 그분의 생명 자체와 결합하여 지상에서 그분과 한 몸이 되는 것입니다. 우리가 주님을 시골의 작은 성당에서 받아 모시든 도시의 큰 성당에서 받아 모시든, 부유하고 번영한 나라에서 받아 모시든 고난과 빈곤에 처한 나라에서 받아 모시든, 교회가 활력에 차 보이든 무기력하게 보이든 관계없이, 우리 모두는 그분의 지체이며 그분은 우리를 당신의 사람이라고 부르십니다.
예수님께서 사울에게 어떻게 말씀하시는지 들어보세요. “사울아, 사울아, 왜 나를 박해하느냐?”(사도 9,4) 예수님께서는 그분의 교회인 우리를 당신 자신과 이토록 가깝게 ‘한 몸’이라고 하십니다. 우리는 주님의 제자일 뿐 아니라 주님 자신의 연장(延長)이기도 합니다. 우리와 접하는 사람은 누구나 예수님과 접하는 것입니다. 신앙 때문에 고통 받을 때 이 진리를 결코 잊지 맙시다. 하느님께서는 우리의 고통을 다 알고 계십니다. 우리가 신앙 때문에 박해를 받을 때마다 예수님께서 우리와 함께 계시고 우리에게 힘을 주십니다.
그리스도께서는 우리가 당신 몸의 연장이므로 우리를 통해 말씀하고 행동하고자 하십니다. 예수님께서 사울을 회개시키고 치유해 주고자 하셨을 때 당신 의향을 아나니아에게 말씀하셨고, 아나니아는 주님의 사절로서 사울에게 가서 손을 얹어 그를 낫게 하였습니다. 마찬가지로, 우리도 오늘날 이 세상에서 예수님의 손이요 발입니다. 주님께서는 방황하는 이, 혹은 외로운 이에게 당신 말씀을 전하라고 우리를 보내실지 모릅니다. 실의에 빠져 고민하는 사람에게 당신의 치유와 화해를 전하라고 우리를 보내실지 모릅니다. 하느님의 사랑을 믿지 못하는 사람에게 격려의 말을 해 주라고 우리를 보내실지 모릅니다.
그러니 깊은 믿음으로 성체를 받아 모시십시오. 기회 있을 때마다 예수님 안에 머물고 예수님도 당신 안에 머물게 해 드리십시오! 당신은 오늘 이 세상에서 그리스도의 몸의 지체입니다. 당신 안에 주님을 받아 모실 때 그리스도의 지체가 된다는 게 무엇을 뜻하는지 주님께서 당신에게 보여 주시게 해 드리십시오. 그분의 권능으로 당신이 사는 곳에 그분의 현존을 모셔 갈 수 있도록 그분께서 당신을 양육하시게 해 드리십시오.

오늘날 이 세상에서 그리스도의 무한한 몸의
지체가 되게 하셨습니다.
제가 성체를 받아 모실 때
주님과 더욱 온전히 결합하게 해 주시어,
제 한평생 주님을 전하는 사절이
되게 해 주십시오!”
