"If you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."(John 20:15)
Poor Mary! She was feeling so abandoned, so overwhelmed with sadness and loneliness. She just wanted to be with Jesus. Yet here she was speaking to the risen Lord himself ­ and she didn't even recognize him!
How like us! Jesus is with us at all times, even when we don't feel or recognize his presence, even when we feel distant from him. We don't recognize him, and so we may get frustrated or feel just as abandoned as Mary did. Is there a way to resolve this dilemma? The encouraging words of Jeremiah 29:13 point us in the right direction: "When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart." Seeking Jesus with all our heart doesn't necessarily mean exhausting ourselves in the search. More practically, it means placing our faith in the fact of Jesus' presence. It means taking our thoughts captive and believing, despite any evidence to the contrary, that Christ is with us. Put simply, it means placing our trust in Jesus.
How much easier it is to search, seek, and trust when we are spending time in prayer every day! Practice makes perfect, and the more we practice ­ praying and living­in faith, the more confident we will become that Jesus is with us. Mary didn't recognize Jesus right away, but once she heard him calling her by name, her heart overflowed with love and the true nature of her faith could be heard in her response, "Rabbouni!" She wanted to embrace him and never let him go. This is the same love we will feel when we recognize his voice ­ even if it seems he has been silent for a while.
Today take some time to check yourself. Are you living in faith? Do you trust that Jesus is with you, even if you don't "feel" his presence? Let Mary Magdalene's witness convince you that those who seek the Lord will find him. Every person who places faith above feelings will be rewarded! So seek him out, place your trust in him, and know that you too will hear him call you by name.

“선생님, 선생님께서 그분을 옮겨 가셨으면 어디에 모셨는지 저에게 말씀해 주십시오. 제가 모셔 가겠습니다.”(요한 20,15)
가엾은 마리아 막달레나! 홀로 버려졌다고 느낀 마리아는, 너무나 깊은 슬픔과 외로움에 짓눌려 있었습니다. 그녀는 다만 예수님 곁에 있고 싶었습니다. 그런데 여기에서 부활하신 주님과 말을 하고 있으면서도 그분을 알아보지 못하다니요!
이게 바로 우리의 모습이 아닐까요! 예수님께서는 우리가 당신의 현존을 느끼거나 알아보지 못할 때에도, 심지어 그분과 멀리 떨어져 있다고 느낄 때에도 항상 우리 곁에 계십니다. 그런데도 우리는 그분을 알아보지 못하고, 마리아처럼 좌절감에 빠지거나 버림받았다고 느끼곤 하지요. 이 딜레마를 풀 방도가 있을까요? 예레미야서 29장 13절의 격려 말씀이 올바른 방향을 보여 주는군요. “너희가 나를 찾으면 나를 만나게 될 것이다. 온 마음으로 나를 구하면 내가 너희를 만나 주겠다.” 온 마음으로 구하라는 말씀은, 그분을 찾는 데에 우리 몸과 마음의 힘을 소진하라는 말이 아니라, 보다 실제적으로 예수님이 현존하신다는 사실을 믿으라는 것입니다. 그 어떠한 반증에도 굴하지 않고 다른 생각할 여지없이 예수님께서 우리 곁에 계심을 확신하라는 뜻입니다. 한 마디로, 예수님을 믿고 신뢰하라는 말씀이지요.  
날마다 기도시간을 갖는다면 훨씬 쉽게 찾고 구하여 신뢰에 도달할 수 있겠지요! 반복된 연습만이 완벽함을 낳습니다. 기도와 신앙생활에 충실할수록 우리는 예수님께서 우리 곁에 계심을 더욱 굳게 믿게 될 것입니다. 마리아는 예수님을 즉시 알아보지는 못했지만, 자신의 이름을 부르는 주님의 목소리를 알아듣자 마음이 사랑으로 넘쳐, “라뿌니!” 하는 대답에서 그녀 본연의 진실한 믿음이 배어나왔습니다. 마리아는 예수님을 포옹하고 절대로 보내드리고 싶지 않았겠지요. 우리도 주님의 목소리를 알아차릴 때 이와 똑같은 사랑을 느낄 것입니다. 비록 주님께서 잠시 묵묵히 계셨던 것처럼 보였더라도 말입니다. 
오늘 잠시 시간을 내어 자신을 되돌아보세요. 당신은 믿음 안에 살고 있습니까? 주님의 현존을 ‘느끼지’ 못할 때라도 그분께서 당신 곁에 계심을 믿습니까? 주님을 찾는 자는 그분을 만날 수 있다는 것을 마리아 막달레나의 증언을 보고 믿으십시오. 느낌을 뛰어넘어 믿는 자에게 상이 내려질 것입니다! 그러니 주님을 찾고 주님을 신뢰하십시오. 그러면 당신 또한 당신의 이름을 부르시는 주님의 목소리를 듣게 될 것입니다.

“주님, 저는 주님께서 제 곁을 절대로
떠나지 않으실 것을 알기에 주님을 신뢰합니다.
주님의 목소리를 더 잘 알아차리도록
저를 도와주십오. 예수님,
저는 한평생 주님만을 따르렵니다.”
