교회의 재건

“주님의 집이 무너져 있는데 너희가 지금 판벽으로 된 집에서 살 때이냐?”—하깨 1:4

 

At this moment in history, the body of Christ is in intensive care, in serious condition. Most Christians have never even seen the Church as Jesus created it to be. The parts of Jesus’ body are separated from one another. The Spirit is stifled. Sin disfigures Christ’s bride. Many of us are turned off by the Church’s ugliness.

역사상 지금처럼 그리스도의 몸이 심각한 중병을 앓은 적은 없었습니다. 신자들 대부분은 예수님께서 세우신 교회의 원래 모습을 알지 못하고 있습니다. 예수님의 몸은 분열되어 각기 따로 놀고 있습니다. 성령은 짓눌려 있고, 죄는 창궐하여 그리스도의 신부(新婦)를 모욕하고 있습니다. 많은 사람들이 교회의 추한 모습을 보고 등을 돌리고 있습니다.

 

We don’t try to restore Christ’s body to its God-given beauty. Rather, we abandon the Church and focus our attention on our own paneled houses (Hg 1:4). We focus on the same things the unbelievers live for, a comfortable life-style and worldly pleasures. However, this way of life does nothing for the Church or for ourselves. We work hard for that which the world considers important, but we are not satisfied or exhilarated (Hg 1:6).

그러나 우리는 이러한 그리스도의 몸을 하느님이 주신 원래의 아름다운 모습으로 복구하려는 노력은 하지 않고, 오히려 교회를 버리고 판벽으로 잘 꾸민 각자의 집에만 관심을 쏟습니다 (하깨 1:4). 또 믿음 없는 사람들이 추구하는 편안한 삶과 세속적인 쾌락에 정신이 팔려 있습니다. 그렇지만, 이런 식의 삶은 교회를 위해서도 우리 자신을 위해서도 아무 득이 되지 않습니다. 세상이 중요하다고 생각하는 것들을 얻기 위해서 열심히 일하지만, 그러나 우리는 만족하지도 배부르지도 않습니다 (하깨 1:6).

 

“Vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!” (Eccl 1:2). Our money always seems insufficient. We earn wages for “a bag with holes in it” (Hg 1:6). Our lives deteriorate “through illusion and desire” (Eph 4:22). When we let Christ’s Body, the Church, fall into ruins, we as members of that Body also deteriorate. But as we build up Christ’s Church, we see our personal lives likewise transformed.

“허무로다, 허무! 모든 것이 허무로다!” (전도 1:2). 돈은 항상 부족하기만 한 것 같습니다. 우리는 열심히 돈을 벌어 “구멍 난 주머니에 넣는 꼴입니다” (하깨 1:6). 우리의 삶은 “사람을 속이는 욕망으로 인하여” 멸망합니다 (에페 4:22). 우리가 그리스도의 몸인 교회의 파멸을 방치할 때, 그 몸의 지체(肢體)인 우리도 멸망할 수밖에 없습니다. 반대로 우리가 그리스도의 교회를 잘 일으키면, 우리 각자의 삶 또한 바뀌는 것을 보게 될 것입니다.
