MOM’S CRYING
“Jesus said to His mother, ‘Woman, there is your son.’ In turn He said to the disciple, ‘There is your mother.’ ” —John 19:26-27
엄마의 눈물
“예수님께서는 당신의 어머니와 그 곁에 선 사랑하시는 제자를 보시고, 어머니에게 말씀하셨다. ‘이 사람이 어머니의 아들입니다.” 이어서 그 제자에게 ‘이분이 네 어머니이시다.’ 하고 말씀하셨다.”—요한 19:26-27
When a mother cries, a special power moves in the heart of each family member. When mom cries, we feel compelled to make peace and do whatever she tells us. Mother Mary tells us to do whatever Jesus tells us (Jn 2:5). So when she cries, it results in Jesus being obeyed.
어머니가 울고 있으면 가족들의 마음으로 특별한 기운이 전달됩니다. 엄마가 울면, 우리는 집안의 분위기를 편안하게 하려고 하고 엄마 말 잘 듣는 아이들이 됩니다. 성모님께서는 무엇이든지 예수님이 시키는 대로 하여라 하고 말씀하십니다 (요한 2:5). 그러므로 성모님이 우시면, 예수님께서도 순명하시는 것입니다.
When Jesus “offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to God” (Heb 5:7), His Father heard Him but most others ignored Him. Yet when mother Mary cries, it affects us differently. We are moved by her tears so as not to remain unmoved by His tears. Our hearts may be hardened, calloused, and cold. But when we see her crying, pierced with a sword, the thoughts of our hearts are laid bare (Lk 2:35). We see our insensitivity to the crucified Savior. When we see her crying at the foot of the cross, we notice we’re not crying when we should be (Jn 19:25).
예수님께서 “큰 소리로 부르짖고 눈물을 흘리며 기도와 탄원을 올리셨을 때” (히브 5:7), 하느님 말고는 거의 아무도 들어주는 사람이 없었습니다. 그러나 성모님께서 흘리시는 눈물에는 다른 무엇을 우리는 느끼게 됩니다. 예수님의 눈물에도 무감각하던 우리의 마음이 성모님께서 우시면 움직이기 시작하는 것입니다. 굳어있고 무감각하며 냉랭한 우리의 가슴도 성모님께서 통곡하시면, 영혼이 칼에 꿰찔리듯이, 우리의 마음 속 생각이 드러나게 될 것입니다 (루가 2:35). 십자가에 못박힌 구세주를 보면서도 무감각하기만 하던 우리가, 십자가 예수님의 발 아래에서 애통해 우시는 성모님을 볼 때, 마땅히 울어야 함을 깨닫게 될 것입니다 (요한 19:25).
How precious are a mother’s tears raining down on a dry, cold world! “At the cross her station keeping, stood the mournful mother weeping, close to Jesus to the last.”
이 삭막하고 냉랭한 세상에서 어머니의 눈물만큼 값진 것이 어디 있겠습니까? “비탄에 잠긴 어머니 서 계셨네, 눈물의 십자가 가까이, 아드님이 거기 매달려 계실 때에.”
