o[o], o-[o:], u[u][u:], a[a][a:], e[ɛ], e-[ei], i[i][i:]
이중모음 ae[ai], oe[oi], ei[ei], au[au], eu[eu], ui[ui]

Latin, unlike English, is spelt exactly as it is sounded. The Latin alphabet contains fifteen consonants (omitting the letters x, y, z, which are only found in words transliterated from Greek, and k, which occurs only in the word Kalendae and derivatives). It contains five vowels.
대문자, 소문자, 명칭, 음가
A a a- [a]
B b be- [b] : ba, be, bi, bo, bu / ab 압, ob 옵
bs and bt were pronounced ps and pt (e.g., urbs, obtineo); otherwise Latin b had the same sound as our letter (e.g., bibebant)
C c ce--체 [k] : ca (까), ce (체), ci (치), co (꼬), cu (꾸) / ac 악
c was always hard as in can, never soft as in city: cum, civis, facilis.
D d de--데 [d] : da, de, di, do, du / ad 아
E e e--에 [e] :
F f ef-에프 [f] : fa, fe, fi, fo, fu / ef
G g ge--제 [g] : ga (가), ge (제), gi (지), gu (구) / ag (악)
was always hard as in get, never soft as in gem: Gloria, gero
H h ha--하 [h] : ha, he, hi, ho, hu / ah 아-, oh 오-
h is always sounded as in Eglish hope.
h 는 대단히 약한 기음(氣音)이다. 이것이 발음되지 않는 일이 허다했다.
I i i--이 [i] : i 이 / bi 비
i was usually a consonant with the sound of y as in yes when used before a vowel at the beginning of a word (iustus = yustus); between two vowels within a word it served in double capacity; as a vowel i forming a diphthong with the preceding vowel, and as the constant y (reiectus = rei-yectus, maior = mai-your, cuius = cui-yus); otherwise it was usually a vowel.
i consonantal, as in iam, is pronounced like English y.
J j 욛 (iod) : ja 야, je 예, ji = i, jo 요, ju 유
* j 대신에 i 를 쓰기도 한다. ji 는 i 하나로 표시하면 된다. jam = iam
K k ka- [k] : kyrie 기리에
The letter k was rerely used, and then only before a, in a very few words.
L l el-엘 [l] : la, le, li, lo, lu / el 엘
M m em-엠 [m] : ma, me, mi, mo, mu / am 암
N n en-앤 [n] : na, ne, ni, no, nu / an 안
n은 c, k, qu, g 앞에서는 [ŋ] 이다.
O o o-오 [o] : o 오 / bo 보
P p pe--뻬 [p] : pa, pe, pi, po, pu / ap 앞
Q q qu--꾸 [kw] : qua 과, que 궤, qui 귀, quo 구오, quu 꾸
q is never found except in the combination qu, sounded qu in queen in English.
q는 단독으로 쓰이지 않으며 u와 함께 쓰인다. qu 의 발음은 영어의 queen에서 qu와 같다.
R r er-에르 [r] : ra, re, ri, ro, ru / er 에르
r was thrilled: curare, retrahere
S s es-에스 [s] : sa, se, si, so, su / os 오쓰
* sca 스까, sce 세, sci [ʃi 쉬] , sco, scu
s was always voiceless as in see; never voiced as in our word ease: sed, posuisses, misistis
T t te--떼 [t] : ta, te, ti, to, tu / et 에
tia 씨아, tie 씨에, tii 씨이, tio 씨오, tiu 씨우
* stia 스띠아 (s는 모음) / * totius 또띠우스 (예외)
t was always had the sound of t as in tired, never as sh as in nation: taciturnitas, nationem, mentionem
U u 우 : u 우 bu 부
V v u--vu부 [u, w] : va, ve, vi, vo, vu u
v had the sound of our w: vivo = wiwo, vinum = winum
The letter v originally stood for both the sound of vowel u and the sound of the consonant w. Not till the second century of our era did the rounded u-form appear, but for convenience both v and u are employed in the Latin texts of most modern editions.
X x ks-익스 [ks] : xa 옥사, xe 옥세 / ex 엑스 (ks)
= ks, 그러나 처음에 나오면 k 가 묵음
x had the sound of ks as in axle; not of gz as in exert: mixtum, excerceo

Z z zeta-제따 [z] : za, ze, zi, zo, zu
ch = k
ch represented Greek chi and had the sound of ckh in block head, not of ch in church: chorus, Archilochus
그리이스어의 χ
ph = f
ph represented Greek phi and had the sound of ph in up hill, not of ph in our pronunciation of philosophy: philosophia
그리이스어의 φ
th = t
th represented Greek theta and had the sound of th in hot house, no of th in thin or the: theatrum.
그리이스어의 θ
rh = r
그리이스어의 ρ
The Romans quite appropriately pronounced double consonants as two separate consonants; we in our haste or slovenliness usually render them as a single consonant. For instance, the rr in the Latin word currant sounded like the two r's in the cur ran; and the tt in admittent sounded like the two t's in admit ten.
Diphthongs (이중모음)
pronounced repidly as a single syllable
ae = e 에
ae[ai], ae as ai in aisle: ca-rae, sae-pe
aё = ae 아에
au 아우
au[au], au as ou in house: aut, lau-do
ei 에이
ei[ei], ei as in reign: dein-de
eu = eu 에우
eu[eu], eu as Latin e + u, pronounced repidly as a single syllable: seu. The sound is not found in English and is rare in Latin.
oe = e 에
oe[oi], oe as oi in oil: coe-pit, proe-lium
oё 오에
ui u-i
ui[ui]
ui[ui]
qua 과, que 궤, qui 귀, quo 구오, quu 꾸
음절 (Syllables)
라틴어는 모음이나 이중모음을 갖고 있는 만큼 음절이 나뉘어 진다.
A Latin word has as many syllables as it has vowels or diphthongs. In dividing a word into syllables :
연속한 모음 또는 모음과 이중 모음은 분리된다. 예) dea, de-a; deae, de-ae
Two contiguous vowels or a vowel and a diphthong are separated : dea, de-a; deae, de-ae
모음 사이에 있는 하나의 자음은 a-mo- [나는 사랑한다] 처럼 다음 음절에 속한다.
A single consonant between two vowels goes with the second vowel : ami-cus, a-mi--cus.
두개 이상의 자음이 두개의 모음 사이에 있을 때는, 마지막 자음이 다음 음절에 속한다. 예, mitto-, mit-to-; serva-re, ser-va--re; co-nsu-mptus, co-n-su-mp-tus.
When two or more consonants stand between two vowels, the last consonant goes with the second vowel : mitto-, mit-to-; serva-re, ser-va--re; co-nsu-mptus, co-n-su-mp-tus.
그러나 중지음 (p, b, t, d, c, g) 이 유음 (l, r) 에 연결 되면, 하나의 자음으로 간주되어 다음 음절에 속한다. 예) parrem, pa-trem; castra, cas-tra.
However, a stop (p, b, t, d, c, g) + a liquid (l, r) count as a single consonant and go with the following vowel : parrem, pa-trem; castra, cas-tra.
ch, ph, th 및 qu 도 또한 하나의 자음으로 간주된다. 예) architectus, ar-chi-tec-tus; loqua-cen, lo-qua--cem.
Also counted as single consonants are ch, ph, th, and qu : architectus, ar-chi-tec-tus; loqua-cen, lo-qua--cem.
A syllable is long by nature if it has a long vowel or a diphthong : lau-do-, ca--rea, a-mi--cus.
긴 모음, 중모음을 가지고 있는 음절은 본래 길다. 우리는 이러한 음절을 본래 길다 (long by nature) 라고 부른다. 예 lau-do-, ca--rea, a-mi--cus.
a syllable is long by position if it has a short wovel follwed by two or more consonants or x, which is a double lconsonant (=ks). Otherwise a syllable is short : lau-dan-tem, mi-sis-se, ax-is (= ak-sis)
그러나 음절을 구성하고 있는 모음이 짧다 할지라도 그 음절이 모음 다음에 자음을 가지고 있는 경우에는 자음 때문에 시간이 걸리므로 긴 음절이 된다. 예를 들면 ma-gis-ter의 제 2음절은 그 모음을 짧지마는 s 를 포함하고 있기 때문에 길다고 간주된다. 우리는 이것을 위치에 의해서 길다 (long by position) 아리고 한다. 예) lau-dan-tem, mi-sis-se, ax-is (= ak-sis)
악센트
악센트의 위치는 다음과 같다.
1. 한 음절도 된 낱말도 악센트를 가지고 있다. 예: vi-r
2, 두 개의 음절로 된 낱말은 언제나 첫 음절에 악센트가 있다.
In a word of two syllables the accent falls on the first syllable : ser-vo, sae-pe, ni-hil.
3, 세 음절 이상의 음절로 된 낱말은
(1) 끝에서부터 두번째의 음절이 길면 악센트는 그 음절에 온다. 예) ser-va--re, co-n-ser-vat, for-tu--na, vo-ca--bo-.
(2) 그렇지 않으면악센트는 끝에서부터 세번째 음절에 온다. 예) mo-ne-o-, pa-tri-a, pe-cu-nia-a, vo-lu-cris, vo-ca--ve-rit.
(2) 그렇지 않으면악센트는 끝에서부터 세번째 음절에 온다. 예) mo-ne-o-, pa-tri-a, pe-cu-nia-a, vo-lu-cris, vo-ca--ve-rit.
In a word of three or more syllables
(1) the accent falls on the syllable which is second from the end if that syllable is long: ser-va--re, co-n-ser-vat, for-tu--na, vo-ca--bo-.
(2) otherwise, the accent falls on the syllable which is third from the end: mo-ne-o-, pa-tri-a, pe-cu-nia-a, vo-lu-cris, vo-ca--ve-rit.
단, 라틴어의 악센트가 강약인지 아니면 고저인지는 확실하게 밝혀지지 않았다.
