YOU'RE FIRED

 "I have come to light a fire on the earth." —Luke 12:49

예수님을 향한 불을 붙이십시오

“나는 세상에 불을 지르러 왔다.”—루카 12:49

I recently read a story about forest fire in the Western United States. The cones of lodgepole pine trees won't drop their seeds unless an intense fire burns beneath them. In a fire, accumulated litter on the forest floor is burned off. Freed of the smothering litter and freed for new growth, the cycle of new life can begin.

저는 최근에 미국 서부에서 일어나는 산불에 대한 이야기를 하나 읽은 적이 있습니다. 로지폴 소나무의 솔방울은 거센 불길이 나무 바로 아래에서 타오르지 않는다면 절대로 그 씨를 떨어뜨리지 않습니다. 산불이 일어나면 숲의 바닥에 쌓여있던 온갖 잡동사니들을 모두 태웁니다. 쓸모없는 것을 없애고 새로운 성장을 가능케 하는 것, 바로 생명의 새로운 이어짐이 시작되는 것입니다.

We are like that. We accumulate junk in our lives which smothers our desire for the Lord. Jesus needs to burn away and divide us (Lk 12:51) from possessions, complacency, confusion, strife, unforgiveness, the desire for money, and all our sins, which suffocate our spirit. Then the cycle of new, abundant life can begin in us (Jn 10:10). "Our God is a consuming Fire" (Heb 12:29). "He will sit refining and purifying" us (Mal 3:3) until our faith shines brighter than pure gold (1 Pt 1:7). When the Refiner's fire is hot enough, the dross in our lives, that is, our sins, burns away.

우리의 모습도 이와 같습니다. 우리는 주님을 향한 우리의 갈망을 저지하는 헛것들을 쌓아가고 있습니다. 예수님께서는 소유욕, 자기만족, 혼란, 분쟁, 용서 못하는 마음, 재물욕 등 우리의 영혼을 옥죄는 우리의 모든 죄들을 태워 날려보냄으로써 우리로부터 분리시킵니다 (루가 12:51). 그러면 우리 안에서 얻고 또 얻어 넘치게 될 새로운 생명의 이어짐이 시작됩니다 (요한 10:10).  “우리의 하느님은 다 태워 버리는 불이십니다” (히브 12:29). 우리의 믿음이 순금보다 더 밝게 빛날 때까지 (1베드 1:7) 우리를 “주님께서는 깨끗하게 하시고 정련하실 것입니다” (말라 3:3). 정련사의 불길이 충분히 뜨거워지면 우리 삶의 찌꺼기인 우리의 온갖 죄들을 다 태워 날려버릴 것입니다.

Doctors and nurses put a needle into a hot flame to sterilize it. This burns away germs which could bring infection and death. We cook our food and boil water over flame to kill organisms which would infect us. In the same way, Doctor Jesus cannot tolerate the infection of sin which enslaves us and leads us to death (Rm 6:16). The fire of His love will not allow Him to stand idly by while we poison ourselves with sin and "litter." He has to ignite the blaze (Lk 12:49) and set our life on fire.

의사나 간호사는 주사바늘을 소독하기 위해 뜨거운 불꽃에 갖다 댑니다.  불꽃은 우리를 감염시켜 죽음에 이르게 하는 병균을 태워버립니다. 또 우리는 식중독의 원인인 유기물들을 죽이기 위해 음식물과 물을 불 위에 얹어 끓입니다. 이와 마찬가지로, 치유자 예수님께서는 우리를 죄의 종으로 만들어 죽음으로 이끄는 (로마 6:16) 죄에 우리가 감염되어가는 것을 용납하지 않으십니다. 주님의 사랑의 불꽃은, 우리가 죄와 “쓰레기”들로 우리 스스로를 독살해가고 있는 것을 당신이 가만히 팔짱 끼고 바라보고만 있게 놔두지 않을 것입니다. 주님께서는 불을 지르셔서 (루가 12:49) 우리의 삶을 불태우시는 분이십니다.

"Stir into flame the gift" of the Holy Spirit (2 Tm 1:6). Catch fire for Jesus.

성령의 “은사를 다시 불태우십시오” (2디모 1:6). 예수님을 향한 불을 붙이십시오.
