GEE, THANKS...
"I will put you in charge of larger affairs." —Matthew 25:21
"잘하였다, 착하고 성실한 종아…”
“이제 내가 너에게 많은 일을 맡기겠다.”
When Jesus asks for an account of your service, you tell Him: "Lord, I've given everything I have to serve You for years. I've gone without sleep, had more children in obedience to You, completed spiritual projects no one but You cared about, been persecuted and ridiculed for You. I've fed Your sheep spiritually and physically for years (see Jn 21:15). It's all because I love You."
우리가 주님을 위해 무얼 하는지 예수님께서 물으실 때, 우리는 이렇게 말씀 드립니다: “주님, 오랜 세월 동안 제가 바쳐야 할 모든 것을 주님께 드렸나이다. 저는 잠을 줄여가며 일했고, 많은 자녀들을 주님께 인도하였으며, 주님만의 관심사인 영적사업을 마쳤으며, 주님으로 인한 박해와 조롱을 받았나이다. 오랜 세월 동안 저는 주님의 어린 양들을 영적, 물적으로 돌보았나이다 (요한 21:15 참조). 모두 주님을 사랑하기 때문이었나이다.”
The first words Jesus says are music to your ears: "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Mt 25:23, KJV). Then Jesus says to you: "I will put you in charge of larger affairs" (Mt 25:23). If you're like me, you think: "Oh. Uh, thanks, Jesus. By the way, Lord, have You noticed how busy I am for Your sake — or that I'm getting older and have less energy — or that my kids need more of my time?" But Jesus ignores the halfhearted response and exclaims: "Come, share your Master's joy!" (Mt 25:23)
예수님께서 하시는 첫 말씀은 우리의 귀에 음악처럼 감미롭습니다: “잘하였다, 착하고 성실한 종아” (마태 25:23). 그리고는 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “이제 내가 너에게 많은 일을 맡기겠다” (마태 25:23). 그러면 저같으면 이렇게 생각합니다: “네? 아이고, 예수님, 감사합니다. 그런데 주님, 제가 앞으로 주님의 일을 얼마나 더 하게 될까요? 혹은, 저는 점점 늙고 힘이 없어져 가는데요? 혹은, 아직도 자녀들이 저를 더 필요로 할까요?” 그러나 예수님은 마지못해 하는 대답은 들은 체도 안하시며 이렇게 말씀하십니다: “와서 네 주인과 함께 기쁨을 나누어라” (마태 25:23).
Most politicians are thrilled to be put "in charge of larger affairs." We Christians, however, often shrink from more daunting responsibilities. When disciples of Christ don't accept larger responsibilities, we hand them over to the worldly. For example, groups such as Planned Parenthood will gladly take charge of Congress and the White House if we Christians don't want Jesus to burden us with more leadership (see Jgs 9:8-15). How many babies continue to die through chemical and surgical abortions as a result?
대부분의 정치인들은 “많은 일을 맡을 수록” 좋아합니다. 하지만 우리 그리스도인들은 많은 책임 맡기를 주저하는 것 같습니다. 만약 예수님의 사도들이 많은 책임 맡기를 주저한다면, 우리는 그들을 눈치나 보는사람들로 치부(置溥)해야 합니다. 예를 들어, 우리 그리스도인들이 보다 고위층의 일을 맡을 수 있도록 예수님께 청하지 않는다면, 가족계획협회 같은 단체들은 좋아라고 의회나 백악관을 냉큼 차지해버릴 것입니다 (판관기 9:8-15 참조). 그렇게 된다면 수많은 아기들이 약물이나 낙태수술로 인해 태어나지도 못하고 죽어가는 비극이 계속될 것입니다.
Let's respond to Jesus' command by looking at the "joy" on His face (Mt 25:23). If Jesus finds joy in putting us in charge of larger affairs, then so must we. Dare to be great for Jesus.
우리 모두 예수님의 말씀에 복종함으로써 주님의 얼굴에 “기쁨”이 피어나게 합시다 (마태 25:23). 우리가 많은 일을 맡아 하는 것이 예수님을 기쁘게 해드리는 것이라면, 우리는 당연히 그렇게 해야 할 것입니다. 예수님을 위해 담대해집시다.
