1908년 어느날, 피카소의 세탁선(피카소 화실의 별칭)에는 브라크,아폴리네르,
막스 자코브 등 많은 젊은 예술가와 화상들이 긴 테이블 앞에 앉아서 한 사람을 기다리고 있었다.

벽에는 피카소가 골동품 가게에서 불과 5프랑을 주고 산 부인상 그림이 걸려 있었다.
사람들은 이 5프랑짜리 그림을 그린 화가를 기다리고 있는 것이었다.
이윽고 모자를 쓰고 왼손에 단장, 오른손에 바이올린을 든 초로의 신사가 나타났다.
신사는 자작곡(클레망스-죽은 첫 부인의 이름)를 연주했고, 아폴리네르는 즉흥시를 지었다.
그를 위한 축제의 밤이었다. 이 무명의 가난한 화가는 아마 그 밤을 결코 잊지 못했으리라.
그리고 나서 그는 2년 뒤에 세상을 뜬다. 이 화가의 이름이 바로 앙리 루소이다.
프랑스 마옌 (Department) 라발 출생.
