어느날 밤 한 사람이 꿈을 꾸었다.
꿈 속에서 그는 주님과 함께 해변가를 걷고 있었다.
One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
하늘 저편에서는 그가 지금까지 살아온 삶의 모든 장면들이 영화처럼 펼쳐졌다.
각각의 장면마다 그는 모래 위에 새겨진 두 사람의 발자국을 발견할 수 있었다.
하나는 그의 것이었고, 다른 하나는 주님의 발자국이었다.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.
마지막 장면이 펼쳐지고 있을 때쯤 그는
문득 길 위에 있는 발자국들이 어떤 때는 단지 한 사람 것 밖에 나 있지 않다는 것을 알아차렸다.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.
또 그것이 그의 생애에서 가장 절망적이고 슬픈 시기마다 그러했었다는 사실을 알았다.
이것이 마음에 걸려서 그는 주님께 물었다.
"주님, 당신은 내가 일단 당신을 따르기로 결심한다면
언제나 나와 함께 걸어갈 것이라고 말씀하셨습니다.
하지만 제 인생에서 가장 힘든 시기들을 뒤돌아보니 거기에는 발자국이 한 사람 것밖에 없었습니다.
전 이유를 모르겠습니다.
왜 당신은 정작 필요할 때면 저를 버렸습니까?"
He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it:
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."
주님이 말씀하셨다.
"사랑하는 나의 귀한 아이야.
난 너를 사랑하며 결코 너를 떠나지 않을 것이다.
네가 힘들고 고통스러웠을 때마다 한 사람의 발자국밖에 볼 수 없었던 것은
그때마다 내가 너를 두 팔에 안고 걸어갔기 때문이란다."
The LORD replied:
"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."
