“그들은 그 별을 보고 더없이 기뻐하였다.” —마태오복음서 2:10
The magi were likely not religious people; they were secular astrologers (Mt 2:1). In the course of their work, they saw a wondrous sign: a new star rising in the west. To them, the star revealed the birth of the future king of the Jews (Mt 2:2). They were not necessarily searching for the Lord God; they were following the star which had drawn them to greet the new King.
동방박사들은 종교인들이 아니라 세속적인 점성학자들이었습니다 (마태 2:1). 그들이 하늘을 관측하는 도중에 놀라운 표징을 보았는데, 그것은 새로운 별이 서쪽에 나타난 것입니다. 그들은 그것을 유다인들의 임금 되실 분의 탄생을 알린 것으로 보았습니다 (마태 2:2). 그들은 분명히 주 하느님을 찾았던 것은 아니고, 새 임금에게 경배하도록 이끈 별을 따라왔던 것이었습니다.
No one can come to Jesus unless drawn by the Father (Jn 6:44). God uses many means to draw people to Jesus. Some men are initially drawn to Jesus by a God-fearing young woman. Some people are only drawn to Jesus by their own children or grandchildren. Some are drawn by a Christian athlete or entertainer; others are drawn to Jesus by a Christian they respect. "What of it? All that matters is that in any and every way" people are drawn to Jesus (Phil 1:18).
아버지께서 이끌어주시지 않으면 아무도 예수님에게 갈 수 없습니다 (요한 6:44). 하느님께서는 여러 가지 방법으로 사람들을 예수님께 이끄십니다. 어떤 이들은 주님을 경외(敬畏)했던 한 젊은 여인을 통해 처음으로 예수님께 이끌리기도 하고, 어떤 이들은 자기 자식이나 손자들에 의해서만이 예수님께 이끌리기도 하고, 어떤 이들은 그리스도를 믿는 운동선수나 연예인을 보고 예수님을 믿기도 하며, 또 어떤 사람은 존경하는 신자를 보고 예수님을 따르게 되기도 합니다. “아무려면 어떻습니까? 가식으로 하든 진실로 하든” 사람들은 예수님께 이끌립니다 (필맆 1:18).
You are the light of the world (Mt 5:14), and thus you are a star which draws people to Jesus. There are some people that God has planned to draw to Jesus by your light (see Is 60:3). Some people who don't know about Jesus will be drawn to you, much like the magi were drawn to the star. They may not be searching for Jesus, but they are searching you out. May you "shine like the stars in the sky" (Phil 2:15) and reflect the glory of God so that these searchers will seek and find Jesus (Mt 7:7).
여러분은 세상의 빛이요 (마태 5:14), 따라서 사람들을 예수님께 이끄는 별입니다. 세상에는 여러분의 빛을 통해서 예수님께 이끌리도록 하느님께서 계획하신 사람들이 있습니다 (이사 60:3 참조). 예수님을 모르는 사람들 중에서, 동방박사들이 별에 이끌렸던 것과 흡사하게, 여러분에게 이끌리는 사람이 있을 것입니다. 그들은 예수님을 찾는 것이 아닐지라도, 여러분을 발견하는 것입니다. 이 사람들이 찾다가 드디어 예수님을 만나게 됨으로써 (마태 7:7) 여러분은 “이 세상에서 별처럼 빛나” (필맆 2:15) 하느님의 영광을 드러내게 될 것입니다.
