Several inquiries have been made recently regarding the posture of the assembly during the Communion Rite. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (no. 43) indicates that the faithful stand from before the Prayer over the Offerings until the end of the Mass, except during the Consecration. However, in Dioceses where it is the custom to kneel after the Sanctus until the end of the Eucharistic Prayer and before communion when the priest says Behold the Lamb of God, it is laudable for this practice to be retained. It has been and continues to be the custom in Hamilton Diocese to kneel after the Sanctus and before Communion. The posture following Communion is not prescribed; however, it is customary to kneel or be seated.
